I have a bony growth on my side/back - feels like a golfball with skin stretched over it. GO asked for an urgent x-Ray. I sorted out transport and got there but minutes after waiting I was told the request didn’t match the form - that I would have to go home and reschedule. Phoned GP and Secretary got back in touch to say I could now go for the X-Ray. But later that day (after I had rearranged transport) I was told they had rejected it again - they said they had emailed GP to explain. This was now into Good Friday. I am left with this lump - that is making me increasingly concerned.
X-Ray rejected GP request - twice! - Pain Concern
X-Ray rejected GP request - twice!
thanks - I don’t know why but it really felt like a judgement.
Have you rung NHS 111 who should be handling Out of Hours for your GP?
And when your GP surgery opens contact the practice manager and discuss this with them. And it might be useful for the ICB to know about this too, as they will have people that are responsible for the pathways and it sounds like something in the administration side has gone badly wrong causing harm to a patient.
The issue with the X-ray request may be the low chance of it being a boney lump. Depending on location it could be a sub cutaneous cyst for which an Ultrasound is more suitable. If there is other clinical information provided with the request (existing cancer for example) then a chest X-ray would be indicated for bone cysts etc. Totally understand the frustration and hope you can get a suitable referral asap.
X-Ray mentioned it might need a CT or other test - but as of now, nothing is booked in.
Of course, they don’t know what a hassle it is me getting there - organising transport then when they rejected it a second time - having to cancel it.
I also try my best to avoid hospitals - the last X-Ray I had was in 2010 when I broke my shoulder. So with them cancelling it twice - I feel like it might happen again so why bother? I really am starting to feel that I will just have to deal with it.
Thanks for your kind reply. Happy Easter/bank holiday.
OMG! how disgusting, but it doesn't surprise me. All you want is something normal to be able to get treatment which is rightly yours. I am so sorry this has happened to you.
Have you tried ringing Pals, at the hospital you are traveling to. Pals have helped me a couple of times when I feel like I’m getting no where.
