You must feel very uncomfortable.

Have you been tested for hypothyroidism, diabetes, uraemia or hyper calcemia with blood tests?

You may have a blockage in your intestines, an anal fissure ( tears in the skin around your anus ) or a narrowing of your colon ( bowel stricture ). Finally, you could have something neurological occurring.

I hope the CT-scan gives some answers. Good luck.

Drink coconut water, eat dates and healthy nuts.

Sometimes muscle spasms in the pelvis can hamper having a poo. Have you tried sitting in warm water in a bidet or a bowl of water? There are special bowls you can sit into your toilet that work like a bidet. Sometimes that is enough to relax the muscles and allow you to have a bowel movement.

Having recently had/having severe constipation following back surgery. I can assure you that whilst uncomfortable, not being able to go for a few days is unlikely to harm you. I note you are taking Movicol and I take something similar. ASK your gp about taking more than usual amount. They may well say just keep on regular amount or may suggest taking a bit more. Be warned if you do take more this could (and did in my case) lead to uncontrollable diarrhoea for several hours!

Hope your scan brings some answers but like I say you can actually go for several weeks before not opening your bowels is a significant worry.

Although I was all cleared out from the prep, I didn't go for ten days after my colonoscopy! I wasn't in any pain but just didn't have the need. If you don't eat or drink a lot stool may pass through your body slowly. If you don't do more than a little bit for a week or more you may want to get an abdominal x-ray. I don't think a pelvic CT will show your colon.

Not what you're looking for?
