A few months ago i started with this stabbing pain below my breastbone, where about the middle of your ribs might be, it only lasted a few minutes but since then it comes and goes, sometimes it starts off on the right again below the breastbone and can radiate to the left, it feels like it’s throbbing and can radiate further up to the left of my chest, sometimes i get breathless afterwards. Not really sure what could be causing it, i’ve read about costochondritis, just abit worrying, been to gp she said it was a water infection which i find bizarre, then got told to contact my gastro consultant as my reflux has got worse, said aswell to go to a&e but not really sure it warrants as an emergency when the pain isnt constant. I’m a 31 year old female.

Worse case dissecting aortic aneurysm. You are certainly young for that diagnosis, but a+e would be your best bet because this would be potentially fatal. Once ruled out, the doc might be able to refer you for further care. Certainly GI problems are possible. etheral
Please go to a & e! I’m not saying you are the same you’re probably not but same thing happened to my hubby 11 years ago. He thought it was acid. Then his left arm started aching so took him to a & e he was having a heart attack. You can never be too careful with chest pain. At least of you go you’ll hopefully find out exactly what it is. X
Thank you, i hope it isn’t something as sinister as that, but ye i think a&e it is, i don’t like causing a fuss and certainly hating wasting doctors time but the pain is still there an feeling short of breath x
Paramedics always say they’d rather you got seen and given the all clear with chest pain etc than not be seen and you not know. All the best. Let me know how you get on. X
I went to a&e i saw two doctors one of which said it could be gallstones n wanted to do an ultrasound, another dr said i could have cysts on ovaries, blood were okay so got discharged without been any further on to be honest, told me to follow up with gp. The pain is still there x
Never thought of gallstones. Both my sisters have/had that. One had op and the other is waiting for op. At least you know it’s not heart related. Hope doc gets you sorted! X
Hi, A few years ago I suffered from the exact same problem as yourself, I had a severe pain in my right side near my ribs and then it came on the other side but it was mainly on the right side. I had an ultrasound scan done at my doctor's this was before the pandemic and the results were that I had Gallstones. It took nearly 2 years to have an operation to take my gall bladder out. Now I am painfree and so glad that i had it done. I had to be admitted as urgently to hospital before the scan i had the so called specialist told me that I had irritible Bowel Syndrome and discharged me in agony. It wasn't even near my bowels. I hope this helps. Let me know how you get on. xx

It is absolutely disgusting but the same thing happened to me and I took it further until they sorted me out, it took a while for them to get their finger out but at least I found out what my problem was. I would demand an ultrasound scan then you will know what you are dealing with. It is your body and you need to know what is happening to it. Good Luck xx
