Benefits of nortriptyline

Hello - my physio thinks I have chronic pain syndrome following extensive foot surgery. I have tried amitriptyline, and now trying nortriptyline as recommended by the GP as he says that the side effects will be less. The physio has suggested pregabalin but I am reluctant to take it. Has anyone taken nortriptyline and if so, have they found it effective? Thank you.

Hello, As I was prescribed Amitriptylin for back pain I decided to do some research on line on both these drugs. Although very similar, It appears there are some very subtle differences between them. Why not check them out for yourself and put your mind at rest.If you find a good solution to the pain you are having why not let us know. Good luck and I hope feel better soon.

I have been taking Pregablin for over 2 years. I’ve found it doesn’t have as many side effects as the others

Hi Hidden, check out Green Lipped Mussel for pain. Please watch the video on the net. I did, saw the user reviews and haven't looked back since. I had been suffering from chronic hip pain for 10 years. Within a week of taking 2000mg daily I was reaping the rewards; much improved health and mental well being. Please do some research on GLM. Hi, I have taken both amitryptaline and nortryptaline which largely helped me with sleep. Nortryptaline was more subtle for me, less side effects. I found a TENS machine very helpful as the electric pulses distracted my attention from the nerve pain. Similarly ice packs. I no longer take nortryptaline as prolonged use ( on a low dose but taken for a few years ) gave me a facial twitch. The twitch stopped as soon as I stopped the nortryptaline. Everything is worth a try and good luck!

I wouldn't worry, give the recommended treatments a chance, the sooner you find something that works the better. CRPS should be taken seriously.

Amitriptyline upset my stomach. Am on Gabapentin and it doesn’t give me much relief. Let us know what you think.

Just so you aware when a post name has become “hidden” it means the poster has for whatever reason left the forum so will no longer see any responses.

I have a painful peripheral neuropathy. I have been using Nortriptyline since October 2009.

Before my three surgeries I took it morning, noon and night. It helped my anxiety and pain BUT I was always tired, dry mouthed and sleepy.

Now that I’m two years post op, I only take a large dose at bedtime.

Pregabalin made me lose my sense of smell and taste. I didn’t like it and it did not help my pinched nerve pain.

All you can do is give Nortriptyline a try.
