Hello

I understand it is like Amytrptalene that deals with nuro pain.

Confirm with your GP

GOOD LUCK

Hi BOB I was at my doctor earlier on there and on my next visit to the Pain Clinic I have to ask them if I can go on the Nortriptyline ,if agreed they will give me a letter to take to my doctor in order to start taking it. Hope I can cope for the next 15 days as the pain is bad.

I'm on Nortriptyline but also I'm on Fentanyl. the Nortriptyline i use to help me have a nights sleep. not sure about pain killers but it certainly helps me sleep. i think its more of a relaxant than a pain killer.. Fentanyl is approximately 100 times more potent than morphine. someone above mentions Amytrptalene. that drug has more of a hangover effect than Nortriptyline. I've had both. and Amytrptalene was making me sleepy hours after waking. where Nortriptyline, has no hangover effect with me. bear in mind everyone gads different effects to drugs. and my tolerance is quite high as I've had really bad pain for 4 years and been on this level of pain killers for 3 years

Hi Pirate185

Sorry to hear you are suffering with pain, but I would say if you are looking for a quick instant fix

then Nortriptyline isn't the answer. This drug, much like Amatryptaline, works with the brain side of things and both these drugs are frequently used as anti depressants for this reason. They take about 2 weeks to actually kick in, so to speak so the relief isn't overnight.

I take 50mg of Amatriptyline every night, and 900 mg of Gabapentin to combat the brain side of my pain, plus regular pain meds as well. These are drugs you should seek proper medical advice over before taking. There should be no reason why your own GP can't start you on them himself, he shouldn't need a letter from the pain clinic, unless he feels that they won't help your particular case.

Hope this helps, good luck with it all.

Angela thanks for that i thought as much with regard to the doctor being able to prescribe the medication . but there you go, and it turns out its 2 weeks before my visit to the Pain Clinic an not 1 as I thought. So I will just keep taking my Cocodamol 30x500 mg.
