Pain in arm when tilting head backwards

Hi I’m experiencing pain down my right arm like along my bicep whenever I tilt my head right back to say look at the sky I noticed it when I went to look at the stars one night recently. I do have pain in my arms and shoulders quite a bit but this is different from that one and it’s in a different place.

Don't tilt your head backwards then! 😆 Seriously, I've got discs out from C2-C7 and it has happened to me for over 30 years. I now have numbness in my face and constant pain all down my shoulder and arm on the left side thanks to this, so be careful.

I do have occipital nerve block done every 6 months, but haven't been able to this year due to Covid and it's hell. When I have it done, I'm more or less pain free for about 5 months. It may be worth seeing your GP to ask for a referral, or like I said, not looking up or over stretching your neck for a while. I can't do it without going dizzy or my entire face going numb, so try not to.

Have you been diagnosed with foramenal stenosis ? I’d be asking for a neck mri

Hi many thanks for replying I have had a nerve conduction test for numbness/pins and needles in my hand and I have my ulnar nerve is narrowing not enough to be operated on I wondered if it was all connected

Hi there, I would get it checked out go and talk to your GP and they could send you for a X ray or a MRI scan just to be sure.

Some muscles from your neck run down and attach in your arm and back, and additionally although we think of each muscle as a discrete entity, they are actually all attached to each other.

So it is possible that you have strained a muscle, or a muscle is a bit tighter than it should be. Do you have a physiotherapist? It sounds like if you don't you should get one to look at this.

Sounds exactly like some of my earlier symptoms. Google musculocutaneous nerve. Also ulnar and radicular nerve. Try to follow the pain back to it's source.

Icing, heat, tens machines, stretching or pressure in the right spot might help. But make sure you're doing it right or you could easily make it worse

And remember everything is connected to everything else. Spinal muscles will try to hold up a knackered spine, but can cramp and crush the spine, or the disc can trap a nerve and send any random signal. Beware the effects caused by the cause of the effects!
