I’m 57, overweight, and fairly inactive, trying to change everything gradually, but ASAP at the same time. I’m type 2 diabetic treated with 4 injections daily, have fibromyalgia and am in indescribable pain at the moment. I’ve recently gone back to taking 2 doses each of paracetamol and ibuprofen per day, but thinking of adding a third dose - just reluctant to be rattling with tablets again.
BUT pain in outside and back of right knee and calf and right hip are getting impossible to live with - burning, cramping, in spasm. Lower back starting to join in. Started not sleeping at night because of pain - this hasn’t happened for months.
Try to do stretching exercises , 3 x 2 minute sessions gently on an exercise bike per day, and one slow, gentle dog walk a day. Trying to sit down for 20 minutes maximum at a time. Going slightly nuts.....

Could you also have an autoimmune problem, such as PMR. This is easily tested with a blood test and if positive 100% relief with steriods in my experience.
If you can ask for a referral to physio or visit a chiropractor. If you are inactive you may have weakened muscles, tendons etc which is causing your knee pain. They can suggest specific stretching exercises for these areas
Try icing at the moment. 15 on and 45mins off. Doing just that on my knee at this moment !
