PIP Renewal Received Late so Cancelled.....

mamahill profile image
24 Replies

Hi all

I had my dreaded PIP Renewal form to fill in and return by 29 August. I posted it on 22 August but alas have no proof of this. I received a letter yesterday saying that as my renewal was received late my award was cancelled. I am so sad as I feel I'm worse than when I received the original claim and the stress of worrying about this has increased my pain levels considerably. Any help you can offered would be appreciated.

Many thanks

Advice, which is too late for you now, is always keep a copy and send all forms to be signed for.

Ring DWP and ask what they suggest. You may be able to resubmit but likely you will have to apply.

None of us know whether forms are arriving late or just DWP saying they are..

Keep strong

Thanks for your swift reply. I took photos of my application and they have the date I took them before I posted off but don't suppose that's much good 😥.

Thanks

I would contact DWP and ask what you should do. I would think at worst, you can reapply from now for a new award.

Thank you for your quick reply. I'll get in touch tomorrow and see what they say.

Hi there, I had same problems when I sent pip form a few years ago , they said they hadn't received it , had to re apply , now this yr it had come up to be looked at again so I wasn't falling for they hadn't received it again , I sent it recorded delivery only to get a letter that they hadn't received it , I rang up they said don't worry we automatically send the letter out and they had received it , but that's what I do don't leave anything to chance , I would ring up Monday like bananas as said and see what they say .

That's terrible saying "Don't worry, we automatically send the letter out & they had received it"!!

Some, not all of the robots who work there don't realise the stress this causes people suffering from anxiety & depression.

I guess they haven't heard of "Brown envelope syndrome" The stress when a brown envelope comes through the letter box, for some will be unimaginable, shaking as they open it up to see what the DWP have totally cocked up this time!!

in reply toRitchie1268

Exactly , they don't give a dam, when I see brown envelope on usually a Friday I panic , I wish I could still work as I wouldn't be claiming this that and other , only benefit they don't bother me about is my industrial injuries benefit for life .

They make you feel worthless don't they!

The 👽 that assessed me for ESA was from another planet!! It took me a very long time to read her report past page 8 due to the blatant lies she'd told! I couldn't believe someone who worked for the government could tell so many lies.

I contacted my MP & told the DWP she had lied time & time again & was incompetent, my biggest mistake was not recording the assessment. But I didn't know the "system" as it was my first time, after spending all my life's savings due to an inner pride of always working hard for what I wanted, before I would even think about claiming benefits.

She withheld letters from my GP & consultants saying I was unfit to work. After they stopped my money for 3 months, unable to even buy a pint of milk & coming so close to being evicted & homeless, months of stress etc, I won my appeal. But I felt completely let down by a system that I had paid 37 years of my whole working life in to.

After 2 years of refusing to claim PIP as I didn't feel entitled to it, along with not wanting to experience the whole humiliating assessment & blatant lies ever again, Welfare rights told me I must claim, though I didn't want to go through all the stress again, the assessment for PIP was a totally different experience & the first "brown envelope" I've ever had pleasure in reading!

I guess it all depends which lottery ticket you get at assessments & where you fall within a system that is clearly target & money saving driven! Yet the cost of the appeal process must cost more when they have to give you back pay.

The whole system is clearly so very wrong, penalising those who genuinely need help.

I should've had another assessment last November for ESA, yet I'm still waiting to hear from them, just waiting for that dreaded brown envelope to drop through my letter box!

in reply toRitchie1268

Hi Ritchie, your ESA which group are you in ,work related, or support group. They do what they are told or don't get a bonus and they hope s lot of people don't appeal let's say in pip they might give you low on care and low on mobility and some people think that's good but they could be entitled to the higher rates but can't be bothered with the hassle , I got wise to them after they had put me in work related group and I had to have a interview and I had only just come out of hospital, I attended with a catheter bag on and I needed to empty it and they said they didn't have a toilet inside and nearest one was over road at M.S ,I left never to return.

I think I was put in the one where I'm supposed to attend 2 interviews in a year. I attended just one & didn't hear from them again. But If I remember right, it was while I was waiting for my appeal after the first assessment.

That's disgusting what happened to you!!

The film "I Daniel Blake", I wish everyone would watch as it shows exactly how a system fails those who it's supposed to help.

in reply toRitchie1268

Hi Ritchie, im lucky im in the support group as I don't get bothered but I feel for you and others because I have been there and I felt like you let down working most of your life and maybe no fault of your own they treat us like crap.

That's how I was made to feel. I worked weekends from age 14 on markets etc. Left Scholl at 16 & went straight into a full time job.

Worked my way upto Operations Manager for a company I worked 26yrs for paying 40% tax , then spent all my savings before having no option but to claim benefits. Then was treated like something you wouldn't scrape off your shoe by a system I'd paid into all my life.

Sorry for your experiences - it's so stressful isn't it? I'll definitely ring in the morning.

Thank you

You could try writing to your MP,

enclosing g a copy of your original application and then send a the same paperwork to DWP. It might work and is worth a try. If you didn’t keep a copy, clearly DWP has one so ask them to send a copy to you.

I always kept copies when I was applying, but was still receiving the old DLA when I turned 65 and I was already receiving it permanently. Just as well since I use a lot of it for a Motability car and the small amount over to pay a cleaner.

I hope that you get a satisfactory outcome.

Hi

I hope DWP get this sorted for you. I've been disabled since 1991 and learnt one thing - keep copies of EVERYTHING because they will fib about EVERYTHING.

Once you get a date for PIP, make sure you know the route and how far you can walk before setting out, leave plenty of time for the journey & rest on the way.

And the thing I found MOST important - take 2 audio voice recorders, not digital cause they won't accept it) with blank tapes and record the WHOLE interview ! Try eBay

You MUST let them know you want to record the interview, at least a fortnight in advance and once it's finished, you have to give one copy to your interviewer - to back BOTH of you up!

Taking someone with you is essential for your support too!

GOOD LUCK with everything

This happened to us so I rang the DWP and the operator said oh yes, we did receive it, but after the cut off date. She then put me onto a supervisor who reactivated the application and got it going on the way.

But because this was a switch from DLA to PIP, they had also cancelled the DLA and there was no way they could legally reinstate that. However they did give us back pay until the date that they had cancelled the DLA.

What happens is that when you send in the form it goes to a central sorting area within the DWP, where a 3rd party company opens all the envelopes and sends them on to the right place. This takes two weeks in some cases apparently!

So yes, ring them up and get it sorted. Even though you didn't get proof of posting, if you can give them as many details about the day you posted it, they should go with it. I read out an email I had sent to a friend that said I had just posted it. Then also get onto your MP because this really shouldn't be happening. It is one thing that the DWP really needs to sort out.

Good Luck!

After reading the replies to your post I agree with what they are saying. I am a career/appointee for my daughter. I fill in her forms as my daughter is unable to do so for the last five years we get letters saying that they not received them. The last three years I made copies and sent them recorded delivery they even texted me saying I don’t need to do anything. Guess what yes letters come. So rang them up. You shouldn’t have to do this computers send out stuff. I too dread the brown envelope worrying what next.

After a 45 minute wait and no reply this morning, I rang again this afternoon and after 10 minutes someone answered the phone. They told me they've never received my renewal form that's why my PIP was cancelled. He told me the only thing he could do was put to his manager for reconsideration but that's about a 10 week wait. They may send me papers to fill out again. I've learned my lesson, recorded delivery from now on. I just wish I hadn't learned the hard way. I'm going to write as well and tell them about what's happened since my original award. I was just too upset and livid to think clearly at the time of the call.

Thanks to you all for taking the time to reply and telling of your experiences. I would love to be able to work again being isolated at home is not healthy.

I don't know if there were any weekend dates involved when you posted your letter back, this could explain late delivery, and also they also use second class post, I believe that they are scanned when they are delivered, so try and ask for a copy if at all possible for your proof, not just hearsay, any dealings with DWP should come with a health warning ,maybe ask the citizens advice on where you stand, or perhaps a local welfare agency could give you further assistance, what a nightmare ,and of course the whole process adds up to more stress to which these people don't want to take into consideration, and this is absolutely outrageous, which can cause most conditions to flare up,it's absolute madness! Talk about being punished for having a health condition, and being made out to be something your not in control of,unfortunately this government has very little empathy,I hope you get this matter resolved, and that you get your next lot of forms successfully filled in ,good luck.

Thank you for your suggestions but they say it never arrived at all! So frustrating as I've been on tenterhooks for ages waiting for the outcome of their decision. You definitely end up feeling like a second class citizen. If I had the choice of being well and at work I would certainly pick that option. So stressful and with Christmas on it's way and I was hoping to actually buy my husband a present out of my PIP money not out of his. Life goes on .....
