Acute Abdominal Pain

Hi all. I’m new here and I really need help.

I am suffering with acute abdominal pain. I have had this pain since about October last year. I have had an ultrasound internal and external. Urine and blood tests. Referred to the gastrointestinal clinic, where I had a colonography ct scan. Was taken into hospital Tuesday for the acute pain. Stayed in for a couple of days and discharged Thursday.

I was due to have my results of the ct on Wednesday.

I went for my results while in hospital and basically they couldn’t really find anything but they said they will get a 2nd opinion on the scan. The consultant then basically told me that it is stress enduced and I need to reduce my pain meds! I am not stressed (well I wasn’t before the consult) and the reason I’m on the pain meds is due to Rheumatoid Arthritis, Fibromyalgia, COPD. They also suggested that they will work with me concerning my stress and depression With some sort of counselling. I couldn’t believe it. So what they are saying is that the pain is my imagination. The lady in the bed opposite who also suffers with stomach pain was also given the same speech from the consultant practically word for word. I was discharged and told they will contact me in a couple of weeks. So I am now lying in bed , with a heat pad on my stomach as sitting up etc makes the pain worse. I am in acute pain but it’s all in my head! What do I do now? Can anyone offer me some advice? I had a hysterectomy about 10 or more years ago. I have also had my gallbladder removed about 4 years ago. My bloods and urine was checked but not my stools.

Gives the difference between what a CT scan can do and an MRI scan do.

You say: "the reason I’m on the pain meds is due to Rheumatoid Arthritis, Fibromyalgia, COPD."

You are by the sounds of it going to be entering "pass the parcel" situation. You need see another specialist after each round of tests who will pass you on to someone else.

Before you saw the consultant you were very stressed. You do not notice it because you have adapted to it. The consultant you saw just added a bit more stress. All pain is in our heads. Our head is where we register the pain that is in our body.

You have to rely on the medical profession to determine if there is something serious they can find. In the meantime you need to seek out the complementary medical profession to do something constructive about the pain. You are going to have to network with people to find someone who is good with their hands.

You have diagnoses and you have meditation. The pain killers you take has probably over the years created damage without you realising it and you now need more pain killer to reduce the pain caused by the pain killers you have been taking. Pain is an important part of the body protection system. It tells the body that injury is taking place so that you can take action to prevent further injury. If you are on pain killers the pain injury protection system cannot function properly and unseen injury can take place.

is a useful website to visit for information.

You say: "They also suggested that they will work with me concerning my stress and depression With some sort of counselling." I suggest you take it up. I do not believe in counselling, but you need feedback on what works and what does not. Over 2000 years ago Jesus said: "It is easier to see the spec of dust in someone else's eye than the plank in your own." This is a true statement that applies to you. I need other people to point out the things that I do that cause me a problem. This is the same for everyone.

See a sports massage therapist. They should be able to help you deal with the Fibromyalgia. Dealing with the problems of over contracted muscle and lengthening them out again is a long process. And it can be painful. But you end up with painfree muscle movement.

nhs.uk/conditions/fibromyal...

is a website which shows the medical knowledge on the subject.

The complementary physical therapies has been treating fibromyalgia for a long time with some success. This success has been ignored by the medical profession. This is because fibromyalgia can only be treated by stretching over-contracted muscles. This is an approach that requires sensitive hands to detect over contracted muscle and then to use a variety of hand techniques to stretch it out.

When I broke my wrist a number of years ago I had the symptoms of fibromyalgia in my forearm. It was very painful to do the stretching exercises to get pain free functionality back. It also took about 6 months. The job had to be finished by a McTimony chiropractor to deal with the muscle clamping on the tendon sheaths.

There is something called the stress breakdown point. Below the stress breakdown point things function albeit with difficulty. Above the stress breakdown point the slightest increase in stress will cause the system to fall apart. I suspect you are extremely close to the stress breakdown point and need to find ways to move your stress away from the stress breakdown point. You can do something about the small stresses and nothing about the big stress. So it is the small stress you need to deal with. Massage can help with this.

Alexander Technique will help you be more aware of how muscle control problems can reduce your quality of life and at the same time give you the means to improve your muscle control to give you a better quality of life. MCTimony Chiropractic will help with muscle micro cramps which again will improve quality of life. Both suggested therapies will not cure the problem. They will help reduce the effects of the problem. Alexander Technique will help with the side effects of COPD.

What I have said is based on my theories and understandings. You need to do your own investigations to see how much of what I said applies to your situation. This is what everything boils down to. We must do our own investigations to see what works and what does not.

Hope I have been helpful.

I'm afraid I can't give you any help or advice Guinee, but wanted to acknowledge your awful pain and situation. Sending gentle hugs and sympathy. XXX

What painkillers are you taking?

I think you should get your stools examined if you haven’t. Has your doctor considered that your pain could be that you have a flare up of diverticulitis which is a very painful condition. If it is this you’ll need to be very careful what foods you eat and not drink any alcohol. When I had it the dr prescribed antibiotic which eventually cleared it up. Little sacks in the intestine become inflamed and infected and bacteria builds up. Taking a Probiotic each morning helped it heal too and gradually go away. Just a thought that it could be bacterial. Hope your pain improves soon and good luck!
