MUA - -manipulation of the coccis

Hello everyone.

Tomorrow I'm going to have a coccis manipulation (under anesthesia hopefully)

I was wandering if someone had it before, how is it going to be and what relief can I hope for.

I was trying to find some more informations and videos on YouTube but without much success..

I assume you have had a x ray of you're coccyx. I had a bruised coccyx last year and my doctor told me it would take 12 months to heal and nothing I could do except wait. I've never heard of manipulation of the coccyx. Can you tell me what it is please.

Hello 👋. My coccyx pain started 3 or 4 years ago. I have had XR and MRI's done for my spine, including coccyx.I received steroid injection into my coccyx which made my pain worse. I think the doctor pushed to hard on my coccyx because I felt and heard like a cracking... I have received facet joints, Saroililic joints, Hips and nerve blocked steroids injections without any help for my pain.

One year ago, because I asked for a DEXA scan(my bones pain was not justified by the MRI'S finding), they discovered that I have severe Osteoporosis.

Doctor said that I must have those injections for the porpoise of the diagnosis. But after I found out about my severe osteoporosis (for what I take now daily injections with Forsteo for two years), my Gp said that I should not received those steroids because they are making my bones thinner. Too late..

Finally, my orthopaedist diagnosed me with Coccydynia and said about having this Manipulation under anaesthetic for my coccyx, like a last resort because he never performed a coccygetomy.

It was performed under anaesthetic so, I know nothing about what happened and my doctor explain it to me like they will try to push my coccyx into his place because is angular, and they are going to inject it with some anaesthetic.

I have found on Google little about the manipulation, but explained better. So, I suppose that the procedure was done through my anus whith a gloved finger, massaging and straching the around tissue and gently pushed the coccyx into the place.

I don't know yet if the procedure worked for my pain, because was done just two days ago. Now, the anesthesia is wearing of and the pain starts coming back but I suppose that I must be more patient..

Sorry for the long details, but I felt like you must understand that everyone problems are different. Hopefully, you will find better outcomes with those procedure.

I think that if the pain persist, you should insist for an MRI and DEXA scan for your bones before letting them to give you steroids injections.

Oh I really feel for you and I hope the procedure helps. Coccyx pain is really awful. I ended up having bone scans, Dexta and CT scans of the Sacral spine. Turned out I had a broken sacrum. I also have osteoporosis. A year later and s1 and L5 hasn't healed. A number of specialist surgeons have advised against surgery, due to me being thin and the osteoporosis. They said that there is no gaurentee that surgery would stop the pain as most of it is nerve pain. Again I wish you all the best. Lola
