Amitripyline: Just started taking these for... - Pain Concern
Amitripyline
I think you do get used to them after a while (I took amitriptyline for about 9 months), but we're all different. Try taking them a little earlier in the evening to see if that helps.
Hi, I'm on amitriptyline too. You need to take it fairly early on in the evening I find. I take twenty milligrams at 7 pm and go to bed between 10&11. I am on pain relief as well. It took me a few weeks to get used to it. Hope this helps xx
Hi there. They can take awhile before you feel any improvement. I take 75 mg on a evening between 6.30 -7pm. At 10 or 11pm they kick in
My son started on 10mg and found it took a couple of weeks to adjust. But amitriptyline only works for about 1 in 3 people. you do need to give it a couple of weeks though to see if it works for you, so keep going!
Hi Grannys27, I'm in my 2nd week of taking amitriptyline started at 25mg working my way to 50mg in 5mg stages each week. I too am tired in the mornings, in fact all day really but each 5mg seems to get easier. It hasn't helped my pain yet but hoping it will when it gets in my system more as well as the stronger dose. What dose are you taking?
Hi there. I’m on 75mg of amitriptyline, tramadol, gabapentin and co-codamol for pain relief. I liken the effects of the amitriptyline to feeling hungover without having the pleasure of a drink. I initially had brain fog till the middle of the day. Changing the time I took it to early in the evening helped. I worked backwards from my bedtime to find the earliest I could take it with knocking myself out before going to bed. Everyone reacts differently so it’s a trial and error thing. Hope things settle down for you soon.
I was on Amitriptyline for a number of years to help with Fibromyalgia and it helped greatly. I did suffer ‘hangover’ but took it earlier, around 8pm went to bed about 11 pm and that did help to feel better in morning. I stopped in April 2016, was diagnosed with RA in May 2017 after months of dreadful pain. Was taking usual anti inflammatories and tramadol, paracetamol and eventually started back on Amitriptyline to help me sleep. (I also take co-codamol) It works well for me and after couple of weeks I had no hangover. Like earlier reply we’re all different so can only go by my own experience. I really hope you get some benefit and feel better in the mornings. 🙏
i'm on Amitriptyline and Zapain and im still in pain, i was put on Amitriptyline for stabbing pains in my hips, i still get them they are meant to relax your muscles but not been doing owt for me , they make me tired which probably means making me relax x good luck x
Hi, I've recently just started off on amitriptyline too. I'm on my second week. I was the same, the first few days I could barely move I was so weak but by about day 3 I gradually improved, im on week 2 now and the tiredness has reduced alot! Like already mentioned try take it as early as you possibly can. I take it at 7pm each night. Everyone reacts differently to medications but I would give it more time if you can but you know your body best so whatever you think! I was also told it can take a month for it to work as it has to build up in your system. Hope it works out for you xx
