I am newish here. I’m in my 30’s. I live in East Midlands, UK. I have multiple health issues, including severe fibromyalgia and back issues. I have most of the various symptoms one gets with fibromyalgia. Medication doesn’t work for me - only taking 5% off the problems. What I find worse about fibromyalgia (apart from the pain) is the fatigue, depression, muscle twitching and inability to loose weight.

And I find there’s a lot of ignorance on this disabilities. Because we look normal and push ourselves, most people think we hypochondriacs or we look OK. But in reality and even on a good day, we still feel absolutely crap.

I have social issues so I find it difficult to physically meet people in person. I can’t believe how fibromyalgia can affect someone like myself so young. It’s definitely a life changer. I wouldn’t wish it on anyone. And I find doctors bloody useless these days and they treat you like a drug addict when you want painkillers.

I would like to meet other like minded people especially in the central part of East Midlands. Anyone like to talk openly.

Do you drink low calorie drinks they are now saying that aspartamein the drinks causes fibromyalgia I live in Stoke and always drank a lot of diet coke as I don'the drink tea I have noticed now I've dropped it off the pain is much better

in reply to sandylo

Hi Sandylo,

I blamed aspartame, which l took in in the form of sweeter for tea and coffee, for the onset of my fibro, which came on over 30 years ago. It changes to formaldehyde, used to mummify bodies, and then methanol, a poison , when it gets into the blood stream. it came onto the market as 'nutrasweet'. I stopped taking it as soon a l found out but the damage was done.

Sorry to hear uour going through so much, I understand you feeling that the doctors don't care. Far to many doctors are only good at things they can prescribe a pill for but out of their depth when it comes to long turm problems that don't have a cure for.

Unfortunately all to often they are running into financial restraints on the treatment they want or are willing to offer.

I've been in chronic painfrom a spinal injury for over 30 years its takes so much away from me, at least with the rheumatism in my hands their something to show for it. I know all to well the feeling that people think you are faking it. I've turned that around and used it as a coping mechanism to deal with the pain. Telling myself its not as bad as it feels.

For three weeks now I've been trying CBD oil its a cannabis extract legal without the high. I got mine from Holland and barrets way to expensice but worth a try. I'm quite impressed with the results its eased my pain and reduced the swelling in my hands , but more than anything I feel better in myself. It's worth thinking about theirs lots about it online. I hope you find this useful.

Have you had your thyroid checked?

Ask your GP for the following blood tests:

Thyroid Antibodies TPO and Tg (Thyroid Peroxidase and Thyroglobulin) .

Vitamin D & Calcium

B12 & Folate

also Ferritin.

Google "symptoms of deficiencies " in each nutrient on NHS choices and other sites.

Also look at the list of symptoms of Underactive Thyroid UK website and see how many you have.

I agree completely with what you have just said. I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia many years ago so I done a lot of research as it's just a diagnosis of unexplained pain. So I decided that I would go down the route of checking out every pain. So I already knew that I had rheumatoid arthritis but then an MRI showed up three bulging discs in my neck. X-rays showed the arthritis in my shoulders hands and hips. As for feeling absolutely desperate with chronic anxiety I found out the I had thyroid problems...and that can make you so unwell. It's only now that I have just had blood tests for my vit Bs. It's too easy for doctors to say you have Fybro as then they don't have to go down the route of loads of medical tests for you....

Hi Bluesummer17,

l live on the border of Northampton and Leics. Have suffered with fibro for over thirty years osteo arthritis for twenty, and recently rheumatoid arthritis, Serjorns syndrome and eosophagial dismotility syndrome . Aint life grand when you've got it in your hand!

I'm now a 69 yr young widow who refuses to take painkillers because they cause joints to bleed and become clogged up with fibrin which reduces mobility. Muscles get attacked by calcium, which is eased by putting half a cup of Epsom salts in a bath and having a good soak. I've also benefitted by receiving Bowden technique massage and taking magnesium tablets and turmeric capsules.

GPs and consultants want to give you painkillers because they get pay back from the factories which churn out these prescription drugs inspite of the side effects they cause....they don't care about you, they are only in it for the money.

You probably know that each person suffers in their own way and has thrown way of dealing with it but my advice is to be kind to yourself and don't allow anyone to put you down because of 'so called illness". Tell them to close the door behind them! If only they could be made to walk in your shoes for a mile!

If you have a good day don't be tempted to over do things in order to catch up as you will suffer for days afterwards. Pace yourself and don't fight it either because that just uses precious energy. Fibro isn't life threatening but certainly life changing. The consultant who gave me my diagnosis said, " With excercise and sleep you will recover in 3 months". HA HA HA. What would l do without my sense of humour!

There is a crowd of us to talk to and help you....you are not alone. xx

I've always said people including doctors cant possibly know how the pain is! they should have it for one day they would certainly have more sympathy. I've absolutely no faith in my doctor went at Xmas after just getting over flu at 74 treated ot myself ! breast cancer survivor of 7 years to be told he would give me a prescription for Ibruprofen I said forget it and came home. I'm still full of cold and not hardly slept since the 9th November with coughing it's just slowly getting better so I just live with all the joint pains and chest now

Get your thyroid checked as I was told I have fibro but that's just a word meaning....(from doctor) oh stop moaning of all these pains...so let's give it a name to shut you all up. It's infuriating as every single pain should should have its root caused checked. I've put on three stone 🐽😬
