I too went through two years of the same and was told that women going through menopause are more prone to water infections. I was advised to drink tons of water, urinate more often and was eventually referred to an urologist and was put on a very low dose of antibiotic. Since doing that I've not had another infection. I would ask to be referred to a consultant in urology. You don't have to suffer, menopause or not! Best wishes.

Thankyou for your advice it means a lot.How long was you on antibiotics for?? Also they are saying go on HRT will stop the water infection because I am not producing hormones .

My mum used to have lots of water infections, she can not go on to the low does of antibiotics because it kicks her stomach off, what they did to fix her problems, was they actually inflated a small balloon to stretch her bladder, and that has had the desired effect of cutting down on the amount of infections she has gotten, will not lie, she still gets the occasional one or 2 of them, but not the 6-7 cases a year, wish you the best of luck with it

Thankyou need to go back the doctors on Wednesday so your mum was not put on HRT which I don't want Togo on if not needed.

yes i have the auto immune diease Churg strauss i virtually have continual urinary tract infections one time it went for a year i am fed up with them only option antibiiotics unless someone has a real answer kidneys hurt not to mention passing it is like razor blades it takes your breath away and a buring hot rod going up through you .but with my disease it is to be expected. i am i bed now after 3 rounds of surgery to clean things up in there to try and lower the level of infections . the chrohns disease having the large bowel out does not help with the forimg of kidney stones and thus infections . depending on what your illness is the back door is causing a weakness in your body being able to fight off infections. be sure to keep sugar of any kind in foods or drink to a minimum and 10 glasses of water a day at least but no sugar straight or any other way .

Thanks for your help

I suffered badly with water infections in my early twenties and found that the antibiotics didn’t work. My consultant recommended acupuncture which was an absolute god send!!! I had sessions for about 6 months and it totally got rid of my infections. I know it sounds obvious but DRINK DRINK DRINK!!!!!!! I try to drink 2 litres of water ever day. If I don’t drink enough I tend to start burning ‘down there’. I also found that Holland and Barrett’s Antitis herbal tablets eases the symptoms. Hope this helps!! X
