Pain after surgery

Hi, I had surgery this past Thursday 12-10-17 and I was given 30/500mg of co-codamol to help with the pain but this isn’t taking the pain away at all. Should I go see my GP in morning and demand something stronger? Because I’m in soo much pain and can’t sleep

Hi daisy Ellen's 265,it's surprising what pain killers can do especially if you don't think your getting any relief, unfortunately it's horse's for courses on this one, so all depends on what surgery you've had done, I had a rather messy and complicated rupture of my appendix many years ago, and was given a syringe driver machine to manage my pain after surgery, well it was morphine and it did not touch the pain, so I was then on an iv drip with liquid paracetamol, and a suppositorie up the back passage, well what a difference, I was not pain free but a lot better with that set of drugs, so certain medications work on the body in different ways and you might have to have a visit to the doctors to see if there's a different pain killer available, so hopefully you can be pain free and get a decent night's sleep, take care for now, and best wishes

Not everyone metabolises codeine in the same way. Some people are rapid metabolisers and they only have to take a little bit and it works too well. Others are normal metabolisers, and it works the way it says on the label, but some people are poor metabolisers, and for them it doesn't work very well at all.

I would discuss this with your GP and see if they can try another drug that might work better for you.

My doctor says he can't give me anything stronger than cocodemols as in on the highest strength but even after eight a day the pain is still there doesn't touch it at all so I started taking just one after breakfast and two before going to bed and it seems to be better for the night pain as didn't want to get addicted to them as already on bendromflorazide for blood pressure and letrozole for breast cancer and the cancer tablets cause terrible joint pain I've had seven years of he'll since the op but they're not interested just say think of the alternative! !

When you were sent home from the hospital after surgery you must have been given some for of leaflet or discharge notes for after care? There should be a hospital number on the notes for you to ring if you are experiencing problems?

They have tried my on all the tablets arimidex exemerstane tamoxifen and letrozole they all give me most of the side effects joint pain. insomnia. trigger finger. cholestral so they decided letrozole was the best for me on discharge then referred me back to my GP who when I ask for help just says I'm not a cancer doctor! I haven't just sat here without asking for help but given up now and just accept it
