Sudden unexplained hip pain

I'm a healthy 70 year old with no health issues and on no medication. I have developed a pain in my right hip in the past 24 hours, such that I can hardly move. Taking ibuprofen and paracetamol to little effect. Any suggestion as to the cause and what might ease it, please?

Best to go see your doctor, none of us is medically trained as this is just a support group for chronic pain sufferers

Thank you. I should have realised.

Thank you. The problem at the moment is that I can barely walk and couldn't get to the doctor! But I've been told this is a site for chronic ongoing pain which is quite understandable, so I probably shouldn't be here. But thank you for your concern.

That's ok. This is a step for anyone suffering pain. And for those who care about them. I would go and see a doctor definately but in the meantime I would rest the hip and try ice. Bag of peas will do. 15 mins on and 45 off. Or a heat pad can relieve pain a little. If you can get one that is microwavable then it's cheaper in the long run than the stick on patches. My ice bag and heat bag rotate round my body some dqys.

Hope your pain is resolved soon.

Hi

There's a few things it could be such as bursitis or sciatica, however, best go see your doctor....I'm sure he/she will sort you out.

Good luck
