I am being treated for fibromyalgia and prodromal RA. I have had hip pain that varies and I find it very hard to describe. It's always been bundled in with fibromyalgia and not looked at further. Today I asked gp if we can re think it to make sure we're not missing anything and have been referred to physio she thinks it's muscular. (I have seen so many physio's since this began 15 years ago! But non specifically for my hip so who knows maybe this one might help unlike the others!)

Is there anyone out there similar or have hip problems they actually know what it is. I feel like I'm a crazy person with all of it to be honest at the moment. Strong family history of RA and my dad has needed double hip and knee replacement (due they think now junior arthritis causing some damage that caused misalignment type thing leading to a lot of wear and needing replacement) also has parkinsonism. Cervical spondylitis. Mum has severe RA started at 17. She believes was seronegative at first. Never really shows much on bloods even when she has a nasty flare and obvious inflammation.

I feel like crying today I don't know why I've battled on carried on with a smile on my face and I take it head on but I have to admit right now I feel like I'm a crazy person..like it's always in my head some how because realistically I haven't a clue why I have this pain and in particular bothering me what is going on with my hip. Its not that it's changed its just I'm managing on hydroxychloroquine well but my hip is the worst area and it's never been scanned.

I guess I'm asking if any of this sounds familiar. How would you describe your hip pain? Does psychological treatment truly help is it on my head?! I sometimes think I'm thinking I have something because my mum and dad do. But saying that my brothers hands look arthritic and he's not right either. Maybe I just need a cry and let it out!! Not felt like this for a while.

Thanks for reading my jibbering. If anyone has any thoughts or wants to say hi!! Crazy person going to find some chocolate.

X

Hi Charlie,

My hip pain was deep. That's the main word I'd use to describe it. With stabs and aches.

I had pain all over for over 40 years, a long list of symptoms. I couldn't believe all the pain was real and thought it was 'me' that was the problem, something in my head.

I was depressed for many years as the self-doubt grew and the pain signals from my body overwhelmed my brain. I know my depression was due to the pain because I have recovered by learning to use my body better and releasing all the symptoms I had been carrying around. The pain was real, overburdened muscles, restricted movement, tensions and weird sensations...

How I started to heal was by connecting with my Base-Line muscles - pelvic floor Base, rectus abdominis Line. Thinking of my Base-Line becoming stronger and longer with every in breathe. Our core pillar of strength and the key to improving physical health. and using the roll-down action.

I've written a few posts:

healthunlocked.com/fibromya...

Focus on using your rectus femoris and gluteus maximus muscles to align your hip and knee joints: healthunlocked.com/fibromya...

How I explain fibro:

healthunlocked.com/fibromya....

It wasn't a quick fix, (3+ years) but focusing on how I used my body has changed my life.

5 main muscles of movement - pelvic floor, rectus abdominis, trapezius, gluteus maximus, rectus femoris.

Look at the anatomy, find the muscles on your body and think about how you use them - what connection you have with them, how balanced are they and how much movement you have / are lacking.

If you want to reply please do it on this thread and not the ones I've linked to.

Hi

I have pain in my lower back , hips and legs, well everywhere really. Cut a long story short, u had an MRI, it showed degeneration of the facet joint, crumbling on the right and a little better on the left. Take care Lynne

Hi there, I too have hip pain as I have OA in my hip joints(and other joints) but not any of the other illnesses you have. If you want to chat feel free to unload 😁.

I used to have hip pain. Xray showed mold wear and tear, turned out to sacro iliac joint. Chiropractors easy excercises sorted it out within weeks.

charlie9:

Lower back pain and hip pain are usually found together, caused by essentially the same muscles. I was a gymnast for 9 years and I'm paying the price. I have had lower back and R-hip pain for the last 50 years, and as one gets older and the muscles get weaker the pain is more prevalent.

After 28 years of seeing chiropractors, in 2008, I started using "Trigger Point Therapy". Trigger points develop when muscles get fatigued (weak) and form a "knot" in the affected muscle that pulls on its tendons, pulling the bones out of their normal healthy positions and causing pain. This pain is sometimes incorrectly diagnosed as arthritis and even fibromyalgia and is the main cause of gout pain (I know, I have gout).

The muscles typically involved with hip pain are the pectineus, adductors-longus, adductors-brevis, and tensor fasciae lathe muscles. The glutius-medius and glutius-minimus muscles that typically causes lower back (sacroiliac) pain also contribute to hip pain. To remove the trigger points in these muscles you need to get the "Trigger Point Therapy Workbook, 3rd addition" to show you where to find these trigger points and deal with them. This can be found on line or at the following link:

amazon.com/Trigger-Point-Th...

This therapy has resolved my lower back and hip problems when applied multiple times daily until the pain is gone. Unfortunately, due to unhealthy daily habits, these trigger points come back and need to be removed, but once you know what to do it is resolved quickly.

I have also found that taking 1/2 teaspoon of baking soda (sodium bicarbonate; 600 mg of sodium) in a glass of water daily has cleaned out my gouty joints making them suppler and less painful. It takes 3-6 months of this to clean them out.

I hope that this helps,

Dean
