Adhesions following surgery

Does anyone else here have moderate to severe pain following major surgery?

I had a bowel resection 3 years ago, and have now had lower back pain for a couple of years. My GP says the problem is scar tissue and adhesions caused by the surgery.

I can't find anyone who has the same problem.

Thanks in advance.

hi mcfifi, yes I have had stomach adhesion's,mine were caused by a rather messy appendix operation with a ruptured abscess, the operation was a success thankfully,it was approximately a year later that I had my first encounter with the same problems,I had severe stomach ache along with the runs,I stayed in bed for a day but the pains were unbearable,so headed off to the hospital and was admitted for a week,so yes it was touch and go as the surgeon explained that cause of the infection in my bowel area was washed out with saline solution at the time this causes problems with the natural fluids in the bowels, and the surgery itself was fairly major and along with the stiches this itself can cause the adhesion's,I was fortunate enough that my bowels started to function and have had only two attacks in over ten years, but ever since my stomach is always churning like a cement mixer,so a second surgery is not really recommended as this can cause even more problems as it can just add to your problems, but its important that if your suffering then the bowels get twisted then the hospital is the best place to be monitored cause if the bowels don't function it can be a pretty serious situation,a high fibre diet is advisable, and not much processed food either, hopefully you can try not to worry to much as like the GP says its probably what you've already discussed and if your not sure always seek medical advice, good luck

Are you saying that you were pain free for a year after surgery? This is an important question.

in reply tojohnsmith

Yes, I eventually recovered from the surgery and went back to work. The back pain started later - about a year later I think.

Thanks for the reply. I may be wrong but it takes about a year for cut nerves to regrow and function again. So for the first year unaware of bruising of internal structures. When the nerves reconnected discomfort was felt. It is worth seeing an Alexander teacher to see if you have developed any faulty movement habits.
