I had a really bad cold about 4-6 weeks ago . I don't get sick often but managed to get rid of it . The cold. Has gone yet the cough has stayed. I'm a smoker 10-15 a day max . When I do start coughing I can't stop , short of breath. People in I'm office are worried do I need to see a GP. I'm a smoker so I would assume self influction

Colds can effect the way lungs function. One thing asthma consultant recognise is that many asthmas start after a cold. Another thing is that following a cold there is often a bacterial infection. The cough is an attempt to keep the lungs clear.

Did have a cold/flu a few years ago that came with a super cough. A number of people I knew went to chiropractors for back problems brought on by the super cough. So the GP may have been referring to this.

We can't diagnose here. Just give advice on things.

In your case I would say you should see your GP. Anything that has gone on for a number of weeks should be explored by medics.

It may well just be viral but someone should check you over.

cough lasting 3 weeks or more it is recommended you see a doctor according to things I've googled. I would consider going to see him, good luck

There's a nasty cold doing the rounds at the moment, which leaves people with a cough that goes on for a few weeks, so it sounds as though you've most probably got that. Of course you won't be doing yourself any favours by smoking, as you know, so you might well have a cough that lasts even longer. If you're concerned go and see your GP, but I'm sure it's nothing to worry about, following on from a cold as it has.

Go to the doctors - give up the fags as you are not doing yourself any good - I can say give up the fags as I am an ex smoker gave up in 1980 without any of the help that smokers get these days - problem is you need to want to give them up but your health will suffer - I now have asthma which I reckon is my stupidity in smoking - I am not saying it was easy peasy giving it up - I started at 15 and gave up at 30 it was hard but eventually I did it - just think you probably spend money on nice clothes and look after your hair - nice perfume but why as you will only smell like an ashtray.

I am not being nasty or preaching but think about it - it's only when you stop you realise this especially when you pass someone in the street and you can smell the fags on them ugh. If I hadn't stopped smoking I would probably ended up with worse chest problems than the asthma. I wish in all sincerity that you do this - take care 😘😘😘😘

Yes you do need to see a GP. Long running cough could be start of lung cancer. Only saying this because you are a smoker.
