Also have osteoarthritis, degenerative disc n joint disease and I'm scared to death of addiction. Been there yrs ago. I just need the edge of my pain to ease up. As I know it will only get worse cuz it has over the yrs. Any help would b appriciated.
Transition to tramadol from tylenol #3 - Pain Concern
Transition to tramadol from tylenol #3
The extended release (ER) version of Tramadol starts in 100mg. You could start there and titrate up as necessary - with the agreement of your Pain Specialist.
There are a number of options once you go the opiate route. Addiction should not be an issue if you are taking it just for pain and do not have an addictive personality.
Fentanyl and oxycontin are two possibilities.
All these have side effects.
Good luck.
Thank you madlegs1,fetinal is definatly something i dont want to take. The codine in tylenol#3 i dont have an issue with. I only take it when my pain is bad. I take advils first. I fell 20 feet straight down at ave 11,I'm now 54. I've had 3 back surgery since 2000. And when my ankle dr went in to fuse my ankle he said it was so bad he didn't know how I was still walking. I tolerate pain well but when it gets bad I need something stronger than advils. My Dr says he wants me to take tramadol instead of tylenol#3. I'm goin to Arizona to visit my sister who I haven't seen in 20 yrs next month n I don't want to b transitioning to a new medication til I get back home.everything from my neck to my ankles got squished when I fell. Only my ankle was addressed at that time. Thanks for listening n advising. Much appriciated. I don't have a problem with withdrawing from tylenol3 as I don't get it. Really wanting to know if tramadol will help take the edge off my pain. Again thank you
I took tramadol for pain and ended up with an addiction. If I forgot to take them of a night time I would be ill in the morning. I just about managed to get up to the tramadol and it would take a couple of hours to start feeling normal again. I don't recommend them to anyone
That's not addiction- just missing a dose. Naturally one would get withdrawal symptoms .
That is certainly not reason enough to warn people off any medication.
Cheers.
Myself, personally, was unaffected by tramadol. It did not give me pain relief.
I have been taking Tramadol for quite a long time, in my situation, It does help with the pain, my dosage is 8 +8 Paracetamol daily. If I am not in bad pain I (with doctors' permission) skip the lunchtime dose. Tramadol has side effects for some people, One friend had to be weaned off as she was having nightmares, another slept all the time, I have not been told of any other side effects. As for myself if I take full dose daily I sleep a lot on the other hand it reduces pain. It was changed to Gabapentin one time, I took One at 8am and was not in this land until 6pm. So was put back on Tramadol. Everyone is different
Thank you tannie, I'm willing to try the tramadol. But when I get back from Arizona at the end of August. Bcuz I'm not sure how it's gonna effect me. I'm sure it will take a few wks at least to know what dose n mg will work for me. I would like to stay on the tylenol3 for my trip to arizona.
Tashikarma2016.. I'm discussing with ppl here because that's what this site is for. To talk with ppl,ask questions n mayb help someone else if I can. So I think u are being rude telling me i shouldn't b discussing with ppl here!!!! If you dont have some good advice for me or a kind word then plz don't respond to my posts.
Thank you bluepettals2. I am very aware of how my body reacts to medications. I also take gabapenton for nerve damage and corporal tunnel. I had to take less bcuz it affected my breathing. I felt like I couldn't catch my breath. I used to take 300mg 4 x a day. Now I take one a day, sometimes 2 or 3 as everyday is different. Some days I'm better than others.
You're very wise staying with what you know for the holiday.
You sound like a well put together person and can stand your corner- fair play to you.
You've been through a lot and I'm sure you'll get through this phase.
Opiates have been around a long time - 300 years in treating Restless Legs Syndrome and generally have good results used with caution and sensibly.
The real pity is that big pharma got their hands on it and have messed up the formulations to bring about loads of unwanted side effects.
Keep strong and enjoy your holiday.
I took transfix for a very short time. I didn't notice it helping me at all. I also had nightmares while on it.
I find Oxycontin a very effective painkiller,I was prescribed 20mg but it didn't quite do the job. So my GP combined this with Oxynorm Liquid, which is very good as an instant breakthrough pain killer. My GP increased my Oxycontin to a level that I no longer needed the Oxynorm Liquid any more. I am now on a 30 mg Oxycontin which is controlling my pain quite comfortably.
