I find an orange works for me. Some time a cup of redbush tea does the trick.

For me Tramadol is the main culprit. All these things work for me . . .

Chia seeds, particularly the powdered ones or golden linseeds can both be used on breakfast cereals or in ice cream or yoghurt.

All bran and sticking to only wholemeal bread and pasta and rice etc.

Prunes, figs or licourice.

Green grapes, but only in large quantities, like the whole punnet.

Or if it really won't shift - Senekot (or some other varieties of senna pods are available!).

I found out that Watermelon always seems to work! That's my first choice but Blueberries and/or Whole Prunes...or Prune Juice work for constipation really well, too. Don't forget to drink a Lot of water, as well. Hope this helps you.

Rhubarb, prunes and blueberries work best for me to combat the effects of Tramadol, dihydracodeine and Oramorph.

Prunes, prune juice, Chia bread (Hovis), wholemeal bread, All Bran, Weetabix, Orange juice (pint morning & eve) or stewed fruit.

A bowel specialist once told me that Sennakot should be avoided because it makes the bowel lazy so prescribed Lactulose. Another good one is Fibrogel/Fibogel; this can be bought in supermarkets now. Your GP could also prescribe Movicol which is just dissolved in water (60 mls) and tasteless.

A few there to try......😊

hello mini

I drink an awful lot of milk (about 4 pints a day) for this purpose

I take two sachets of Laxido orange and one sachet of fibrogel a day. Both are prescribed by doctor. Works well for me.

i have had chronic constipation for a few years and lately in hospital was given laxido sachet mixed with some water. not a great taste but after 3 days i could not believe i was going to the toilet and doing a decent amount. not just a little bullet. the only thing is i have to keep taking it and then if im going to much i stop for a day and go back on it, its amazing, constipation is an illeness in itself. it cause;s stomach pains and terrible headaches. so its great to get relief.

i know this is going to sound so stupid but apart from suppositorys a raw clove of garlic placed in the wotsit will work its just clenching and keeping it in is the main thing,i suffer chronic with it as does my brother we both take codeine he is cool but i have a dodgy ticker so i do not want to die straining so badly it has brought on angina before, its no joke you can die from this and yeah people laugh but when you hurt so bad it stops being funny, you can even buy enema kits online,i get concerned for my grandbaby as she suffers she is coming up to six and still screams when she has to go and she has been this way for years and holds it,her diet is very poor she was baby led weaned on food and i think she got some taste that either hurt her mouth or something we have asked doctors as at the age of six nearly she has never ate a sweet or had juice or pop only milk, she will try a bit of things but will spit it out,the doctors will do nothing she is the right weight and slightly taller for her age she is on the autism scale and is very bright way ahead with reading and has a memory like rainman, i want to cry with frustration as it is not for the want of trying we have cooked many many things and thrown them away she will eat grated cheese at the moment but as you know it makes the constipation worse, sorry for the novel but do try the garlic clove i did it works good luck x

i just remembered picolax they give you this to empty the bowel before a camera up your wotsit NOW THAT WORKS i do not know if the doc will give it to you but i am sure you can buy it online good luck again x

Dear minnietip,

I 'post' about constipation, a while back now-a 'difficult' one, if you will excuse the pun. Constipation, is a very, very common 'side effect' of many medications-especially, it would appear, the ones that we are on. I often put a 'Basic Cream', like Aqueous Cream, sometimes E45 (not often though), literally into my bum-yes I finger it up! Sometimes it can take, quite some time, to have an effect, though other times I'm going all f....g day! Fruit, is also good, especially Rhubarb-probably the best-apples (which I don't like much, to be honest), any fruit in fact. Careful with Blueberries though, they can 'plug you up' (the last thing you need).

Apart from all the above, you can talk to your Doctor/Consultants or even the local Pharmacist-don't under estimate them. Without being too crude....You can always put a gloved finger up your bum and leaver it-sorry if this sounds 'nasty' but it can work, trust me on this!

Please do let me, indeed us all, know how you get on-will you please?

Hope you find some, much needed, relief soon.

Kindest wishes

AndrewT
