Does anyone know whether if doctors want to take you off oramorph , can you refuse as I have been on 20 mg 4 times a day and it is the only thing I can take which works for my pain.
Oramorph: Does anyone know whether if doctors... - Pain Concern
Oramorph
The difficulty is that if you are insistent about staying on opiate pain meds, you could well be seen as primarily a drug-seeker and that could really impact on your future treatment. Are you being seen by a pain clinic at the moment? You really need to be discussing options fully with preferably a pain specialist, but otherwise whoever it is that is prescribing these meds. If you tell them you would be happy to try coming off oromorph, but you are aware that it could cause significant withdrawal symptoms, and you aren't sure whether anything else is going to be as effective on your pain, so you want to make sure you have a good plan worked out for all eventualities so you don't end up being left in severe pain. Agree with your doctor how you will do the withdrawal, what you are going to replace it with, and how long you will try the alternative if it doesn't appear to be working as well. If it is the GP that is wanting you off the oromorph, then ask if you can stay on it until you can discuss your options with a pain specialist (again, because of the problems that withdrawal may cause if you haven't got a transition plan in place).
Brilliant advice. "opiate" painkillers just mask the problem
Unfortunately you are not in a position to refuse as its a prescription only medication and you cant make a doctor write the prescription, maybe better to work with your doctor for a suitable alternative and if no alternative can be found he may then keep you on it.
Or you can change the doctor!!!!!!!
In theory yes as he signs your srript.
Has he offered any reason for wanting to stop prescribing it?

Hi.
Sorry but I'm a bit puzzled (this isn't hard to do nowadays)
Who/Way do they want to take you off the tablets ???
Are they giving you something in place ???
Please let me know??
Steve.
This is a difficult one, you do need some consideration as to what is best, if you can go with none opiates for pain it would be better for you. I take opiates but it's because I can't take other painkillers for my arthritis, this may be the case for you and the doctor may have to put you back on oramorph but they have the right to find the best value and treatment for the patient which sometimes means trial and error, including specialist advice. Consider what has been said above as it is sound advice for you Laynie, best wishes x
Thank you for the advise I have tried a tablet which was supposedly stronger mst (or something like that) but it made me really sleepy. I just know that oramorph is the most suitable . I just need to convince the doctors and pain specialists .
They are taking everybody off oramorph , i was offered no alternative , still awaiting pain team for the second time round ... it's about saving money
Go on you tube where there is a wealth of knowledge my dear and please get clean and come off the "opiates" Big bonus with arthritis is to get the inflammation down also get collagen organic capsules I got them for arthritis and it helped big time. I asked my doctor if collagen could be prescribed but unfortunately isn't - so buy them for yourself. Google collagen and read all about it. I use turmeric capsules to get the inflammation down (on my back) and rub in essential oil (turmeric) which is marvelous. Please go to you tube where there is a wealth of knowledge. Good luck.

What doctors? You haven't specified your situation and why you're on opiates . It's difficult to answer your question. Has it been discussed with you already or is it an off the cuff comment?
