Has anyone heard about nerve stretches? are they effective? Thanks.
Nerve Stretches: Has anyone heard about nerve... - Pain Concern
Nerve Stretches
My Pain Consultant insisted I tried what he called neural flossing, which is I think what you mean. He said this helps release specific nerves which might be stuck owing to lesions, damage etc. I persisted with the stretches but I have to say that in my case, I was and still am, worse. He continue to press these stretches and won't listen to my feedback. I stopped doing them. I did Google the process and I understand the theory and that many have been helped, especially with sciatica.
I'm been doing neural sliders for my arm for 3 weeks now. There is a slight improvement but it has hurt my chest and shoulders. Hopefully that will ease. Back to physio today for more of the same
I have discussed this with my Alexander Teacher. This was as a result of a tear in one of my tendons which had a secondary effect of causing cramp in some of my muscles. When the muscles eventually un-cramped a spot of nerve stretching took place as my Alexander Teacher worked to get full mobility back.
From what I understand "nerve stretches" by themselves without ensuring that the muscles are functioning well is not helpful.
When I broke a bone in my wrist. It was ages before I got full strength in my fingers. My McTimony Chiropractor had to work on the muscle tightness in the wrist before the fingers regained strength. The loss of strength was very obvious when I had to press keys to type in my pin number for my credit card. The strength increase in my fingers was very definite after the work on the wrist because of the ease I could press the keys on a credit card machine afterwards.
A bit long winded I know, but needed to be to give a full explanation.
Hope this helps
I have not. Sounds like a good idea!
I had physical therapy for my back and neck, it was worse before it got better nothing like the pain meds help but stretching is always healthy. I do yoga as best I can and it can make me sore but I refuse to waste away. All of stretching and moving and being active always helps our body and helps and is healthy.
