Does anyone else who Is desperate for pain relief get made to feel like some sort of junkie by their doctor when they ask if there's anything else they can try to help the pain!
Junkie! : Does anyone else who Is desperate for... - Pain Concern
Junkie!
Lucky you!
Right now there seems to be a major crackdown on narcotics prescribed. There has been a major attitude change from my doctor from one appointment to the next due to a conference he attended. There was no change in my medications as far as picking them up early or anything like that. I have Kaiser, and I've heard they are no longer writing new prescriptions of Norco. I know things are crazy in the pharmacy since the FDA has made Norco a C2. I think it's totally unfair to treat pain patients like junkies just because they want to reduce the amount of narcotics they are prescribing. No doctor should ever put a blanket statement on an individual.
I'm truly sorry your doctor is treating you that way. Just know that he or she may have pressure being put on them not to prescribe. Doesn't make it right though!
yes i have felt like this too with my rhumatoid arthritis all i got was take paracetamol from over the counter this was not touching the pain so for over a year i was in constant agony then i took the ball by the horns and told my rhumatolagist exactly how i was feeling with the pain keeping me awake most of the time i was unable to cope with day to day living and even though i have 5 grown up kids and think its wrong to take your life several times i was so close to doing this i could not take the pain any more and told my rhumatolagist this then they took me serious and perscribed a strong pain killer cant remember names of this med yes i do realise with strong meds you are bound to get side effects but i was throwing up an hour after taking this pain killer and kept on throwing up all day they ended up changing me on to another strong pain killer same thing happened 3rd strong pain killer gave me bad dhyorea and in end doctor told me to go back to paracetamol as there was nothing else they could give me so im back to taking over counter pain killers which may last 20 mins with pain taking edge off then bk to full blown pain i feel like they are sweeping me and my concerns under the rug so yes i know how you feel
Yes.. It was horrible what happened couple days ago. I'll write more when not so exhausted,
She called me names and I'm still on the meds I wanted off of!
I've stopped asking as anything more than I'm taking - I wouldn't be able to drive. I'd rather have my freedom to drive and suffer the pain.
There is the risk that some over-the-counter & prescribed pain killers such as those with codeine in can become addictive, or at least cause something called medication over-use headache, which apparently is a right nightmare to get rid of / come off these tablets after long-term use. There are warnings on the packets to not take them for more than 3 days in a row.
It does, however, always make me laugh when I get a grilling from a pharmacist when I try to buy a packet of co-codamol over-the-counter for very occasional use when all my usual pain management strategies have failed or I've got a migraine. I practically have to swear on my children's lives that I'm going to be sensible and not get addicted.
Meanwhile, across the supermarket, packets of highly-addictive nicotine sticks and bottles of alcohol are being sold without question. I am an almost tee-total non-smoker. It's a funny world.
