Hi all as any body had qutenza patches because next week my pain specialist is going to try these patches on my arm and stump and my right ankle, i believe one of the ingredient is a synthetic form of capsaicin the compound that gives chilli peppers their heat sensation.
Hope u all have a pain free day best wishes to u all
Yes, I have had this done before. I would recommend that you get a few bags of instant ice because it can burn intensly for upto 24 hours afterwards. Also get some aloe Vera gel to rub on afterwards to help with cooling. The procedure last between 30mins to 1 hour, depedning on where they apply them.
I had a Qutenza patch treatment last year on my left side, due to severe PHN. Although it's not the most comfortable of treatments, it only takes an hour. First you get marked up for where the patch will go, then the patch is put on top of the affected area. To stop any burning of the skin, two ice packs were secured on top of it and a timer set for one hour exactly.
As my skin is super sensitive on that side and the pain truly dreadful,I found the hour went very slow and it was uncomfortable, but the nurse was so kind and offered me pain killers (Tramadol). After an hour, exactly, everything is removed and the ice packs put back directly on the skin to keep it cool until I got home. Aloe Vera is recommended to put on afterwards.
Unbelievably I had no reaction to this treatment at all and it helped my PHN for about 3 months.
I'm hoping for another treatment very soon, even though it's not the most comfortable!
Good luck with your treatment, I'm sure you will find it worthwhile.
Hi had the qutenza patches done the other day they just put the patch with out the cream that should go on first sat with it on for a hour it was like having sun burn they put a ice pack on for about 10min, I was told to ice packs on when I got home but I did not have to do that because we're they put the patch on it was back to the way it was before they done the treatment that was a waste off money
