I use codeine, 30mg and paracetamol 500mg and ibuprofen 400mg, I asked my doctor to put the codeine up to 60mg as I take 4 of the 30mg to have any effect, he said now you've told me that I can't as your over dosing and you should only be taking 2 at a time, he still upped my allowance to 140 codeine a month, so I'm still taking 4 and then I dont have anymore unless I need to, so as long as I don't do much I just suffer and hold my back, I feel like I'm one handed as I hold my back or lean against things to help with relief from the pain, I was on zomorph last year after admitting to trying oramorph which helped me, the hospital even gave me it when I went to accident and emergency at the QE in Birmingham, ask for codeine, zomorph is pointless, as most slow relieve things are, codeine takes about an hour to kick in, but will help, I got off zomorph as it was useless, I've had a steroid injection, didn't work, so looks like I'm stuck on the codeine, don't be too truthful to your GPS, either, goes against you, sad really, good luck xxxx

Hi Paula, have you ever been on Gabapentin and have you ever tried long back heating pads and heated car seats?I find they take quite a bit of the pain away.

Also I am on 8 co-codamol a day and the combination of these taken with gabapentin works quite well.

Have you been referred at all to a pain clinic and have you had scans?

Hi Paula , i had best results from a guided steroid injection, it still flares up every so often but rest and volteral 12 hour gel helps

I have suffered with this after a spate of injuries and falls and being hypermobile, I had physio for months and still do the exercises 4 years on, had steroid injections to no avail, accupuncture ,which reduced the pain alot, and put on amitriptyline 10mg which was then upped to 25mg, the pain doesnt go away but it makes it more manageable, at one point I thought the medication wasnt doing anything so decided I wasnt going to take it by day 3 I found out just how much it was actually doing, I was crying in pain and barely able to walk ,it was like I'd gone back 4 years in time ,hell I soon started swallowing those pills again, I'm also very restricted on what footwear i can wear ,anything just slightly too heavy or too soft underfoot causes me agony , I live in hope of some magic medication that would get rid of the pain completely sadly I dont think it exists, I've also had gabapentin, naproxen, cocodomol, tramadol, voltorol along the way none of which helped much, the amitriptyline helps me sleep through it and stays in your system for hours but I still top it up with anadin extra through the day while working.

Hi Paula, sorry to hear this! I too suffer with extreme hip and lower back pain, which I’m told is bursitis of the hip. I’ve tried the steroid injections in both hips although the pain came back relentlessly and soon afterwards. It’s not a long term fix. Besides Tramacet/Tramadol, I wouldn’t suggest a morphine / opioid based med as these don’t tend to help but rather a steroid based med. Perhaps ask for an increase in your Prednisone?

I am on Zomorph slow release ( 20mg twice a day ) and if the Pain is really i top up with Paracetamol

Hi there, I'm sorry you are suffering so badly with this and really understand how you feel.

I too suffer badly with this and was in a bad place a few years ago and my approach is just at managing and coping with my pain and getting by each day.

I've tried all the same meds, steroid injections etc and what helps me cope is paracetamol, duloxetine, lidocaine patches and tramadol (although only when I really need to take them).

The other thing is doing mindfulness. Have you been to a pain management clinic /programme? This made the biggest difference to me in many respects - understanding what was happening to cause my pain and pain process in general, pacing myself, mindfulness, changing my thinking/thoughts about things.

It also highlights being "kind" to yourself and encourages you get back to "hobbies" etc that you enjoy. This doesn't always include things you really just want to do but can't anymore but things that you can (although this has been hard at times). I feel this really helps me and lifts my mood.

I also use a hot water bottle although not too hot! And also heated car seat too makes things a little easier.

Hope some of this has been helpful for you x

Hi i was on Tramadol but wanted to come off them and try other medication , i did try morphine Patches but i was alergic to them ( imagine being sunburnt badly on a square Patch of skin , it was really Painfull ) . In the end i am now taking Zomorph slow release morphine tablets and if i am in a lot of Pain ( done to much ) i also take Paracetamol . I did go to a Pain management clinic where i had Accupuncture and that eased the Pain a bit but because it was an nhs clinic it was no longer going to be funded because of cut backs

Hi, I’m Isobel also from the UK. It’s been a few years since my sacroiliac joint pain but I still remember how very painful it was. It was during my squash playing era. I took myself to an osteopath who was very helpful. It takes it’s own sweet time to get better and you must be very careful for a while. I expect I took paracetamol but for an unrelated problem I remember the doctor prescribing Zapain which were very helpful. Good luck xx

Please try Gabapentin if you can, not one or two but building up to full dose of 12 a day. It really does make a huge difference to getting rid of most of the pain.
