Statins and pain

I am writing this for my husband who has been put on statins by our GP, they are having a terrible effect on his joints, he already has bad arthritis and these seem to be making him 100% worse as he can now hardly walk, has anyone else had this happen.

Hi yes I was put on statins and I had terrible cramps in almost any part of my body.My Dr took me off them ,but I would go back and see your GP because if he really needs them they can change them to one that suits him.Good Luck

Hi - your husband definitely needs to speak to the doctor about this as soon as possible. Joint problems can be a serious side effect of taking statins. If he is suffering these side effects then he does need to come off them (and maybe find something else instead?). Please don't delay in getting your husband to a doctor about this.

It is a reported side effect of stations. The doc can try him on another kind if he really needs them. I say this because there is not talk that they gave been over prescribed as a preventative. That should say now talk but the cursor won't go back so I can't alter. And stations should say statins of course!

Hi, A friend has just pointed this out to me as well, she said they are trying to get everyone on them and to be honest my husband didn't have a blood test or any other test befor he was put on them, he went to the docs with a leg ulcer and came out on aspirin and statins. I have kept him on the aspirin as it helps a bit with joint pain and bought him some benecol till we can see our GP.

Very sensible decision. To be honest your GP sounds to be a bit of an idiot putting him on these without any tests. There does seem to be a push to get almost everyone over a certain age on them nowadays - while the other side of the argument is that they have serious side effects like this. Hope your husband gets some relief from the pain soon. I think coming off the statins should help.

Yes I thought it very strange as well but hubby is 20 years older than me so he is getting on a bit, maybe that was the reason, but was coping extremely well with his arthritic pain before going on these, well he was putting up with the pain anyway.

Wise decision, especially as surgery agreed he should come off them for now. You need to ask GP why he thought it was a good move. There nay be a reason and if so, a different kind might help.
