Hair growth

In the scheme of things regarding ovarian cancer this question might seem trivial. My hair has grown back following chemo but after growing about 2 inches on the crown it has now come to a standstill. The back and sides are growing normally. Has anyone else experienced this?

Hi. My hair has not grown back evenly either. Like yours it had a growth spurt all over then continued to grow back on the crown and top but a bit less so elsewhere. My hairdresser has been great and shaped it to disguise the difference. Seven months on from finding chemotherapy it just started to grow back more and a little more evenly. I think it’s just a matter of time. We both will have our hair back like before in due course I’m sure.

Hi I don’t think your question is at all trivial. I didn’t experience this but one side of my hair grew thicker and quicker than the other. My hairdresser had to compensate for this and tried to ‘even’ it up each visit.

I’m just over 2 years post chemo and it’s all sorted out now and growing evenly.

Good luck xx Jen

Thanks for that Jen. I had my hair cut today and my hairdresser has had to compensate like yours. You've given me hope that it'll eventually return to normal. Maggie

Definitely not trivial! The first time I lost my hair 3 years ago it grew back evenly and normally I lost my hair for the second time last Summer but this time the hair on the crown is thin and also my hair is now wavy. I went for my first hair cut last week and my hairdresser is just ‘working with it’.

Sorry to hear you lost your hair for a second time. It's encouraging to know that the other lady who replied says that after two years her hair is now growing normally which is encouraging. Good luck.

Mine is being trimmed every 3 months, I'd have left it but as with you the top seems to grow faster than the sides too. I'll be interested to see if mine stalls as well, as it's about 2 inches. I am 8 months from finishing chemo. I do hope yours does come back more evenly. It sounds from others like its a case of being patient. Which is not always easy!

Thanks for that. It's reassuring to know it can happen.

yes mine is growing much slower on top than the back and sides. Maybe it always did and I didn’t realise as it was shoulder length?

Thanks for that. It's good to know it sounds as though it can happen.
