Caelyx and hair loss

I’m wondering how much hair loss people have had on Caelyx? The nurse thinks I probably don’t need scalp cooling.

I’ve been on carboplatin and paclitexal for 3 cycles, using the scalp cooling. My hair is much thinner but still there. I’m concerned about not using the scalp cooling and the rest of it going. Thank you

Hair only thinned on carbo/caelyx. Didn't use the cold cap. It's taxol that does the real damage to hair😒

Agree with Cheadle. I have very fine hair and I never noticed any difference in my hair. I did suffer from v dry skin particularly hands and feet.

Hmm. I used cold cap for 3 sessions (but carbo/taxol) - thought I was fine then, after third session, it all came out. Sad but I would say damage has already been done if you started on that combo. xx

Hi florrie2 my experience was that my hair thinned out in patches so I ended up having it all shaved off because it looked worse bald in patches than bald all over. It's now grown back curly but fairly thick and I quite like it because it was very straight before. Hope you're treatment goes well for you xx. 😊

Hi Florrie, I did not loose any hair with carbo/caelyx. I suffered dry and itchy skin on my feet and mouth ulcers though - fortunately you can treat those problems. Eight week ago I finished carbo/gemcitabine, It was predicted my hair would thin, sadly I lost it all. Good luck with your treatment. 🙏❤️

I had no hair loss with Caelyx, and found it easier all round, compared to Carboplatin and Paclitexal. Wishing you all the very best!

I’ve just finished 6 cycles of Carbo/ Caelyx. Told I wouldn’t lose my hair which had just grown 8 months after Taxol/Carbo.

I soon found my hair coming out, not in clumps but strands of hair on pillow and brush every day. In the end had bald patches so I had remaining hair cut very short and have worn a wig or hair cover all summer.

My hair was shortish and fine. Another wait while hair grows!

Good luck with your treatment. I didn’t have many problems except my platelets being low for the last 3 cycles and delaying them. xx

I did not lose my hair on Calyx. I did lose it when on Carboplatin. I lasted for about 1 minute in the cold cap before I shouted « take it off » so well done you and all those who tolerate it.

Hi Florrie, guess it shows we are so individual and react individually too. I just had second cycle of Caelyx / Carbo and my hair started to fall on the 3rd week after first session. My hair grew back pretty curly and thick after loosing it all on taxol/carbo last February so is not that visible yet and main impact is after washing it so I just do it once a week and try not to touch it.

I was hoping this combo is more easy to handle based on the feedback from other women but I really suffer from stomach pains and nausea. Throwing up every day at least once even 8 days after chemo.

I hope it works out well for you, main thing it should kill the cancer 🙏😘💚🍀

Best wishes, b

Hello all. I had a chat with the oncology nurse who has been with me through all of my treatments so saw my hair at the start. I said I’d had variable reports and obviously she has seen people on Caelyx.

We decided to stick with the scalp cooling. I really appreciate you sharing your experiences as it helped me with a difficult decision. I don’t mind the cold of the cap, but the clamping on the forehead can be a bit painful.

I lost all my hair on carbo/paclitaxel, but I didn’t use a cold cap. On caelyx and Gemzar I kept all my hair.

I lost all my hair on Carboplatin and Taxol. I did not lose any on Caelyx (Doxil) and Avastin. It grew back in then as I started on the Caelyx and Avastin 2 months after finishing Carboplatin and Taxol.
