I was wondering if anyone else has had carboplatin and gemcitabine ? I had taxol and carboplatin last year which was told had worked well but the oc has returned. Onc said I couldn't have taxol as it was under a year I was on it. Asked about avast in but told only for 1st line chemo. Is there any hope for us with reoccurrence of this horrible disease love to all xx
Just be told have got to have 2ndchemo again - My Ovacome
Just be told have got to have 2ndchemo again
Hi Nikki,
I think my onc is about to abandon my caeylx as it did not work as second line chemo. First line was carbo/taxol which did not work either. My onc is thinking either (carboplatin and gemcitabine) or (Treosulphur and Gemcitabine). He is going to talk to the rep from the company which makes Avastin to see which one is supported, and then apply to the cancer drugs fund. That is the current plan, but I am expecting bad news based on what other ladies and yourself have reported re first line treatment.
Good luck Nikki in this horrible lottery.

i asked my onc about avastin but said it was not being offered to ladies on 2nd line chemo. i even asked about having it privately but the price was prohibitive. I think we all should be able to have avastin if we need it. Good luck your onc sounds really supportive love nikkix
My onc is a funny character but quite inspiring. Very quiet and thoughtful. I did throw my dolly out the pram when I got fobbed off with a second registarar, and he seems to have seen me himself ever since. I think the problem is, it will not be until later this year they have fully documented all the findings about Avastin and oc, there are some ladies it is just not appropiate for. I was told it was more appropiate with 'bulky' disease. I am not sure what that really means, but it does indicate there are some it isn't appropiate for! Mind you, chemo is trial and error, may as well as Avastin into the melting pot of chance too!

Good luck to you we just have to fight on. Love and a big hug nikkixx
Hi Nikki,
So sorry to read this; you must feel deflated!
I just wanted to say that you can have carboplatin again - and if it worked well last time, I think it is likely to work again. They might give you a different dose.
I refused taxol, and there was no problem with carb. on it's own - they just upped the dose. It wasn't too bad and seems to have done the job for me!
Of course, they might also try other drugs.
Whatever treatment you are offered- very best wishes!
Isadora.
Hi nikki
I finished carboplatin last April, was supposed to have taxol too but had a severe reaction too. Unfortunately in December was told that the oc was back. Had my 4th cycle of carbo/gem yesterday. Have to say that this combination totally wipes me out, for the first week and a half I really don't have the energy to do much at all. Have learnt to listen to my body and spend a lot of time sleeping, however after the first week and a half you do start feeling normal again. This combination affects your blood cells and you are constantly in and out of hospital, I've had to have a platelet transfusion and will be on my 3rd blood transfusion on Tuesday. The good mes is that my ca125 dropped from 1211 to 248 after first treatment and yesterday I was told it is now at 11. YIPEE.
I sincerely hope everything goes well for you, if you have any other questions please feel free to message me
Hugs xxx

hi Shabila,
like you i am on 2nd round with gem/carb. i am so glad that i am not the only one to feel like this as i thought it was that my body was not coping with the chemo. my Onc said this was easier than carbo/taxol but this is wiping me out for days. i too have needed transfusions etc. my Ca125 is down to 151 after 3 cycles and i have just had my fourth. Your story is very similar to mine in many ways xxx Parvin
Hi Nikki - I am on carbo/gem for first recurrence. Had carbo/taxol first time around, which finished Jan 2010. I have just had 4th round and, like Shabila, have had major problems with my white blood cell counts after all 3 rounds so far. They dropped so much I had to delay each treatment for 3 extra weeks so instead of finishing treatment at end of Jan, I am still only two thirds of the way through. This time though I have been given a 'neulasta' shot to help boost my immune system so it doesn't crash again, but we'll see how it goes! Again, like Shabila, I have to say this combination does wipe me out each time and I have zero energy for the first 2 weeks. The good news is that my CA125 is down to 8 at the moment! Good luck.
