Didn’t make it to trial B96 - second line chemotherapy- paclitaxol

hello everyone

I posted a few weeks ago and found responses very useful so I thought I would ask again to gather any useful advice from this wealth of experience.

At New year I became symptomatic with acities, tummy pain , vomiting, unable to eat etc.. This is a recurrence of HGSOC 3c post chemo/debulking NED June 2022 and now classed as platinum resistant. BRCA neg. HRD neg.

I was lined up for a trial B96 for platinum resistant recurrent which included paclitaxol;Bevacizumab and pembrolizumab/placebo BUT I became so ill that I had to start on chemo immediately hence didn’t make it into the trial. I had 9 nights in Addenbrookes getting better. Very annoying but it was so quick that I fell sick after Christmas.

I have acities in pockets, difficult to drain. Find it hard to walk far. Tummy ache.

Did anyone else find that a Christmas week of eating and drinking (although in moderation) may make symptoms worse?

I’m now just on the first round weekly paclitaxol (3 weeks on, one week off). How long will it take before I start feeling better?

What are the common side effects of paclitaxol?

Any advice on how to get through this whilst minimising damage to healthy cells?

I’m on a syringe driver with Oxycodone for pain plus Buscopan and anti sickness. I have a district nurse coming every day to replace syringe. Has anyone else had this? How long were you on it for?

It’s quite restrictive as I have to be here everyday to get it changed.

Many thanks in advance for your replies, any advice or experiences welcome

Keep on keeping on

Hi ,

Sounds like you are having a horrid time . During 1st line chemo I has problems with serious sickness , severe abdominal cramps . Came home from hospital and had a syringe driver to stabilise things so could finish chemo . About 2-3 weeks I think . Restrictive as you say , but worked. Worst problems showering etc . And occasional problems with the syringe , but the nurses were fantastic , could contact anytime . Thing I would say is that the irritable bowel symptoms continued after chemo and have never fully resolved but much less severe and intermittent. Do have to be careful re diet . . But I have never had ascites .

Don’t know if this info is useful or not but I wanted to respond as I remember the misery of that time . I hope they manage to get all your problems under control soon .

All good wishes

Jennifer
