I received my PET scan results yesterday and it confirmed the beast is back! It is in a lymph node in the pelvis. It’s going to MDT today to discuss whether I have a second surgery and chemo or just chemo.
Chemo will be carbo and doxorubicin. Has anyone experienced this combination of drugs? How did you get on with it?x

Hi Robbo16! I'm so sorry you are experiencing a recurrence. I can't help you with your chemo question but I wanted to tell you I had a recurrence 6 years after frontline in an inguinal node. It was discovered by myself right at the beginning of the pandemic and I didn't receive treatment for 6 months because the hospitals were full. My Dr decided against chemo because a CT scan showed the cancer nowhere else but the node. He decided on surgery to remove the very swollen node and I received 25 radiation treatments after the surgery. It was a success! Of course, after that recurrence my Dr is seeing me every 4 months now to keep an eye on me. So far so good! Fingers crossed. Good luck to you and please keep us updated on your treatment! Hugs, Jill
Thank you Jill that’s good to know and pleased to hear you are doing well. Can I ask about the surgery? My Oncologist said they will go in the same way as my original debulking surgery even though it is only the one node in the groin. I’ve read elsewhere it can be done just in the localised area. I’m getting an appointment with the surgeon to talk it through.Radiation hasn’t been mentioned, what was that like for you? I really appreciate your response x
Since my recurrence was in an inguinal node, not my abdomen or IN my pelvis, I was easy to access and operate on. It was in the crease where your thigh meets your pelvis.
By doxorubicin I think you mean caelyx which is called doxil in the US (short for pegylated doxorubicin). I found it quite tolerable. You don’t lose your hair. Mainly you need to heavily moisturize hands and feet for a week after the infusion and use gentle mouthwash to try to avoid mouth sores. I felt a bit nauseous and fatigued from day 3-6 but then fine for the following three weeks. Good luck!
