Caught a break

Good morning all. Scans after 10 taxol weekly showed substantial gains. Very little obvious cancer left so we continue 3 weeklys one week off for 4 months then onc prof wants to look at immunotherapy...this is my 5th line. 3 and 4 did nothing (carbogem then caelyx) and cancer on the liver was troubling. So this was my last shot and it worked gave me breathing space. With this series i am doing fasting 24 hrs before and after chemo. Lots of water herb teas veg broth and a small glass of soy milk to dissolve glutamine powder which i need to keep neuropathy in check. It is an interesting journey but my health apart from cancer is fine. Only drugs i take are nexium and zelitrex with homeopathics bp normal transit ok appetite good no nausea but our constant companion fatigue continues. 3 dogwalks a day. Have been living in burgundy countryside but move to paris next week where everything is close at hand. Starting my 6th OC year now 77 and would like to keep the cancer in check a while longer. Cheers and bon courage to all

Great to hear Taxol is working for you, I think I am heading for 5th line soon so was interested to read that taxol can be given for this length of time. Did you loose your hair with weekly taxol?

Ask for the ice helmet 20min before infusion and changed midway through also can use that hairgrowth product. I cut mine short anyway

That's excellent news, especially after two disappointing regimes. Time to celebrate 🥂

That's great news. I'm happy for you and it will be reassuring to everyone to know that one chemo will work after two have failed. Take care! xx

This is such good news Ruebacelle!

So happy for you. May year 6 and many more Years continue to be as successful.

I had my second infusion of Taxol on Monday but have been experiencing a really sharp pain in my right side since Tuesday. Verging on unbearable. The oncologist has prescribed Dexamethasone to be started tomorrow. I was really very worried until I read the post about your success with Taxol. Now I feel confident the pain will be worth it. I haven’t lost my hair yet but I’m expecting to lose it pretty soon.

Once more I’m really happy for you. We are a similar age and still have a lot more living to do.

Good night and every good wish for the future

Love from Angela x

That's great news, good to hear taxol working for you. I had carbo/taxol for first chemo. Took reaction to taxol and had carbo on its own. Now on carbo/caylex

I have just completed treatment 10 of weekly taxel, with two to go. This is 4th line treatment for me. All of the treatments I have had over the past 3.5 years have been successful, however have not lasted the distance. With weekly Taxel I was at CA of 593 when commencing, which is very high for me. My CA reduced rapidly when tested every three weeks, to being 25 two weeks ago. Side effects have been a little more than expected. I had Carbo/Taxel for 1st line, and neuropathy and extreme joint/muscle pain, hair loss. This time I have had the dreaded Taxel rash, along with the other side effects as per first. The rash has nearly driven me up the wall, however i have persevered. Had a treatment break last week, as came down with strep throat, and was very anaemic. I had a blood transfusion and a week off to settle things down. My hair thinned out rapidly from treatment 3, and I had it cut really short, however had to go the whole way a couple of weeks later. I think the hair loss this time was worse than the first, as opposed to coming out in volume, it came out continuously hair by hair. It was a toss up between me and the cat as to who was losing the most. Saying all of this, the main thing is that it has been successful. During covid lockdown things got away a bit, and it popped up all over the place. CT scan will be done at the end of treatment. Hope this helps. Therese

Well you have certainly had challenges but bravo for keeping it up. What about ice helmets for hair loss and glutamine powder for your neuropathy. It works for me. Soldier on almost finished. Good luck

It works for me.

Hello Therese in NZ.

Such a great message for all of us here.

I've just had my second Taxol infusion. Up to now I'm managing quite well but I know the hair loss is imminent. Already having fun with wigs and hats. Some pain this week but subsided a little today. We just have to carry on and on.

Lockdown is a necessary evil IMO but it's so difficult when we're trying to make the most of every day. If only everyone would stick to the rules.

The best of everything you wish for from your CT Scan.

Please let us know.

Love from Angela xx

Your so right, this time last year felt dreadful bald and bad about myself , this year looking forwards to many more years. And looking and feeling so much better, get frustrated with never seeing my consultant for 12 months. Just blood tests and had a scan in July and they told me l had another lymph node enlarged which they are keeping an eye on, had one taken out last year and that was cancerous but my ca 125 was over 2 000 its now 15 its crept up from 9 since l finished my chemo. So that worries me slightly. But l think were all the same on that score. 10 years previously l had brain surgery for a tumor, now have a programmable valve in my head to let the pressure off l had 3 brain surgeries and actually never felt frightened.

But if lm honest cancer scares me even though lm determined to beat the damned thing. Sorry to waffle on just need to get it off my chest sometimes. Xxx
