Just like everyone, I’ve not had the best year, thanks to cancer and COVID. I may post later about my troubles, but right now I want to share how I feel at the moment. I managed to travel to Mull with the blessing and support of my medical team. I have spent nearly a week in this glorious place which has enormous memories for our family - we first came here in 1991 when our children were little. Two of our children and their lovely families are with us (sadly our other daughter and her partner couldn’t join us due to the b*****y virus) and are having an amazing time repeating experiences we had back then - beach days, long walks and barbecues. We have been blessed with the weather too - always a bonus! The folk we know on the island have been incredibly welcoming too.
The peace I have found here has reminded me of all the good things in life and how important all the memories we have are. I know I can’t go on forever, but my life has been amazing mostly due to the wonderful people around me, beautiful places help too! I hope you can all stay strong wherever you are. I’m sending all my love to everyone, Ali x

Beautiful picture Ali, looks like a place to sit and reflect on everything and also to be thankful for the here and now. Glad you had the break. Big Hug, Kathy xx
Thank you Kathy - I’ve put a lot of ‘what ifs’ behind me this week and feel I’ve mustered the strength to continue the disagreement with cancer. Much love, Ali x
Wonderful pic, looks like a painting, all the colours blending in so well. I didn’t know the sand was grey, it matches your outfit. Must have been a long journey but by all accounts it sounds as if you are having a wonderful time.
Hop the weather holds for you, a lot of storm warnings around.
The journey is long, but well worth it. We had amazing weather and are now heading home (actually we’re waiting at some motorway services for the AA!) hey ho!! X
Hope you're well on your way now. How nightmarish to breakdown on such a long journey. I'd like to visit Mull but I'm guessing the sleeper might suit me better. Trouble is, this means a limitation on luggage, even with hiring a car at the station's end, as there is a limitation on what the packhorse can carry for me. Travelling all the way with my own car, I can take clothes for any type of weather the Gods might care to throw at me, not to mention tons of skin care and make-up. I'm really a soap and water girl but when I'm on treatment, I'm at the opposite extreme.
Hope your bowel problems have resolved somewhat. I'm slowly increasing my intake of healthier food and decreasing the bland over-treated stuff; hope I don't overdo it.
Great photo. What a lovely peaceful looking place. It certainly does make me appreciate what I have. Have a wonderful time reminiscing and doing all the things you love. Wish I could be there☺️. Bug hug. Jackie
I would recommend somewhere like this for everyone - having time to yourself to think and being with those you care for can make such a difference (or at least it has for me!) x
Heading back to civilisation now - just waiting for the AA at the motorway services!! The world and it’s vicissitudes pondered upon, now to persuade the chap to buy a newer car!! X
Won't!! I had everything crossed during the northward journey that ALL would work out including the temperamental bowels and car! I forgot to keep them crossed on the homeward bound journey!
Uplifting to read your post this morning Ali. So so pleased for you that you are having a wonderful time on Mull with family and friends. Very special. Lots of love
Hi Ali. I’m doing ok at the moment. Recent scan shows some progression and some asites but it could have been so much worse as it’s ten months since my last chemo. I hope to get away for a few days holiday in September and am enjoying spending time with my grandchildren.
Oh how wonderful ,I'm sure the whole experience has given you renewed strength to continue the fight ,it's a place I'd love to go ,next year maybe ,its so good to see a post like this ,gives us all a boost. I'm off to Dartmoor in September ,hopefully make it before any lockdown ,I'll put a post on like you .Very happy for you . xx
I travelled with the usual reservations this condition gives us and did have some problems, but the joy of the experience far outweighed the fear. I hope you enjoy Dartmoor - another of my favourite places. Xx
Ali, Thank you for posting such an uplifting message. It’s great to hear that you and your family have had a lovely time together. It looks a beautiful
Thank you so much for this reflection. With the whole Covid thing I have found it harder to feel the joy in simply being alive and you reminded me about it. You are lucky to be with at least two of your children recreating precious experiences.
So pleased your having such a lovely time with family in a place that holds wonderful memories for you. I have just done the same with my husband, daughters, new Granddaughter and extended family in Dorset. A wonderful time to enjoy and pretend everything else in our world is irrelevant and can be ignored for just a short time, caught up in our wonderful moments. Enjoy the rest of you holiday.
Julie (from Awareness day last year/Roses/New Street Station)
Hi Julie, I hope you had a great time in Dorset - another of our favourite family destinations. How wonderful to have a new granddaughter too. I hope you are well - New Street seems a long time ago now doesn’t it! Xx
Lovely words Ali and very true, you look lovely and serene in this pic and it sounds like you had a wonderful time with your family. Scotland is beautiful isn’t it?
What a wonderful photo of a lady looking serene and at one with nature. Thank you so much for sharing this with us. I'm glad that you had such a wonderful holiday with your family xxx
I had the best time and would want everyone to do what they can, even if it’s just popping out for the day. An opportunity to forget the horrid stuff and make memories. Xx
That is so true.. I am staying with my daughter in Swansea at the moment l find walking along the beach incredible and stopping for ice cream and the crossword amazing. Sole things are so important 🤩💓🤩
Thank you for that Anne. As everyone does, I do feel the fear, but I try to work through the possibilities as logically as I can - I know where the nearest A and E is and, if necessary, I would have to have been helicoptered off the island to the mainland. I guess at some stage we just have to hand over to the people we are with to make the right decisions for us! I’m extremely fortunate with the support I have. Ali x
