Starting Doxil Soon. New to community.

I’m new to the forum, but a veteran of OC since 2017. Been through a complete hysterectomy, two cycles of Carbo/Taxol and several cycles of Avastin. Recent PET scan has activity on four lymph nodes.

Oncologist has advised cancellation of Avastin and starting Doxil. I have multiple side effects with Avastin that make “normal” activities increasingly difficult. I’m concerned about new drug, as I’m familiar with the “devil I know”.

I’d like to hear from anyone who has been on Doxil.

Thanks so much!,

So sorry to hear about your recurrence. I know how difficult and distresing this must be for you from my own experience but you can do this.i I'm on doxil and carbo first recurrence in 3 lymph nodes. My oncologist prescribed me with corsydl mouth wash as it can cause bad mouth ulcers. This has kept me ulcer free and I have not had one mouth ulcer. I have had 4 infusions so far out 6 and the side affects do far for me have been very minimal but I know we all respond dufferent.. I've had a little tiredness and my hemoglobin dropped after the third infusion and I had a blood transfusion and magnesium infusion but ok after. I've just had a scan last Thursday to see how it's going so fingers crossed it's kicking the b###ers into touch. In comparison to taxol it's been a walk in the park for me and the oncologist said I would not lose my hair and I haven't. Also I bought some neutrogena deep moisturizer as I know doxil can cause cracking on hands and feet and I have had none of this. When you have your infusion of doxil they should put ice blocks on your hands and feet to help stop the cracking happening..... My advice would be to get your oncologist to prescribe the bottled corsydl and get some good moisturiser. I wish you all the best on your treatment. I have one once every four weeks an hour of doxil and an hour of carbo. Any questions feel free to message me. Wishing you all the very best going forward

Thank you so much for the information. I am very concerned about the possibility of skin problems. Both the doctor and the PA were adamant about this. But I will heed your advice. ❤️

Hi. I agree with everything win56 said but would also keep ice chips in your mouth during the doxil infusion. In addition to heavy moisturizer on hands and feet several times a day for the first week you need to avoid hot water and any kind of abrasion on your skin. I had about five days of nausea and fatigue but felt well the other three weeks.

Thank you. This is the first I’ve heard of ice chips during the infusion! I was told to avoid extreme temperatures and anything that causes friction on the skin. This makes me wonder if shoes that rub will cause blisters. BUT if there is nausea and fatigue in the first week maybe shoes will be the least of my worries.

The idea that I might have three good weeks following infusion is exciting! With the Avastin, I currently suffer from fatigue and extreme joint pain all the time. If I can avoid the skin problems, the Doxil May be a welcome change. Thank you again for reaching out!
