I had a chance to speak with my doctor today for the follow-up to the thoracentesis. I was told that I am now at stable disease. I had the second thoracentesis in six weeks with another 1.1 liters pulled out.
My treatment options are pretty slim as if right now. I'd never originally responded to first line chemotherapy treatment and after two other drugs I finally have been stabilized with avastin. However it's had a bit of effect on my lungs and heart.
doctor is sending me to the pulmonologist to discuss treatment options for the effusion. A pleurodesis, continued thoracentesis or a catheter. the question is who's had what and how has it worked for them and how much of an impact does it have on daily life?

Your condition seems far too complicated for me to offer any advice, except perhaps, for you to ask for a referral for a second opinion where you could perhaps consult with a cancer research centre that might provide you with other options or trials.
Thank you. This doc was the second opinion so I am actually going to one more specialist to get a third opinion because this doctor's suggestion was so different from my first one. What is pretty cool os that I asked the oncologist if he would be willing to try metformin with my avastin and he is going to try that so I think I have a good reason to hold off to see if this drug change will impact the pleural effusion.
