Large ovarian cyst ?

7cm cyst found a month ago on a ultra sound for gall bladder . However I did not know about the cyst at the time . I did not know about it until having the surgery consultation for my gallbladder when he told me ! Needless to say I was not impressed and shocked ! I was sent for another ultra sound a month later ( yesterday April 9th) but they couldn’t get the pictures they needed as my bladder wasn’t full enough even though I drank the the required amount . Now I have not even talked to a doctor about the cyst ,no one has explained to me what is going on so needless to say I worried . I am 47 my periods have been irregular the last 6 months but I just assumed it was my age but this past month very off 19 days last with spotting some days but no actual flow . So after the ultra sound yesterday I called my doctor and insisted I be seen this week , I had made an appointment previously and couldn’t be seen until May 2nd . Combine all this with gallbladder surgery coming up with May 27th and having to find a new place to live and trying to buy a house I am s little bit stressed and scared . Is 7 cm big ? I guess there is no point in worrying until I know more but how do I not worry ? ☹️

Hi My 'cyst' was 9cm when it was discovered and that had grown in less than 12 weeks - no that's not meant to alarm you but to confirm that your insistence to be seen sooner rather than later is valid. Stick to your guns, make a fuss if necessary but be seen and get this resolved. Hopefully it will be nothing serious and worst case you will feel embarrassed for having made a fuss. So what? It's your life. Sounds like you have enough going on at present without having an additional worry. Good luck. Do let us know how you get on. xx Kathy xx

Has your doctor done a ca125 blood test? It's not totally accurate but can give a good idea if there's something more than a simple cyst going on. I would definitely go back and make sure they refer you on to the proper specialists. It needs seeing to properly so they can decide whether surgery is needed.

I go and see my doctor tomorrow. I have yet to even discuss this with a doctor at all ! It was found in the ultrasound for my gall bladder and when he told me about the gall stones he said nothing about the cyst ! A day later they call to schedule another ultrasound still not telling me about the cyst so I assume it’s for gall bladder then two weeks later while at the surgery consult for the gall bladder the surgeon tells me about the cyst ! Of course I was shocked so then I figured out the ultra sound was for it . Had that Tuesday April 9th - 4 weeks since last ultra sound and still have not talked to a doctor, so after yesterday I got fed up came home and insisted I was seen this week instead of May 2nd so I go tomorrow.

Poor you , such a shock ! I was the same age when my monster was discovered. It was 16 cm and at the time I weighed less than 9 stone. It was a borderline mucinous tumour , a non invasive type of OVCA and I have been fine since. Generally 5 cm seems to be the size they think about removing it. Some of these masses can be 20 cm plus in diameter , so 7 cm is not too enormous.

Let us know how you get on.

So the cyst is all fluid and has shrunk since last month , going to do a trans vaginal ultra sound to get a better look and has referred me to a gynaecologist, he told me not to worry that the fact that it has shrunk was a good sign . I just feel better talking to him and getting the referral to the gynaecologist 🙂

Oh that's really good news, I'm pretty sure if it was anything sinister it wouldn't have shrunk at all, the fact that it is fluid filled is good and it's probably just a functional cyst. I'm glad he's listened to your concerns and referred you though, hopefully by the time you get the scan it will have shrunk even more 🙂

I would strongly request the CA125 blood test AND a CAT scan for the cyst. A radiologist can then get a better determination about the cyst.

Hi Tummypainz, sorry you find yourself in this situation. I can’t help with the cyst size I am afraid but what I can do is reassure you have made the right decision by demanding to be seen so you can discuss the whole situation and not just your gall bladder surgery.

I find once you have your date, be armed with any questions you desperately want answers to, and ask outright about your concern for ovarian cancer. If you don’t get the answers you want ask for a second opinion. When you have the answers your anxiety and worry will subside a little.

It’s natural to be concerned we all go through it. Write your questions down as it is easy to forget them (especially if you are like me 🤪).

Sending you lots of love 💕 hugs 🤗 and positive thoughts xxxxx
