Hello all, I'm 10 days post debulking surgery. Initially after the epidural came out I had a lot of right sided abdominal pain but I thought it woukd gradually resolve. Difficult to describe but it's a very sharp, intermittent pain which takes my breath away. It's worse when I'm standing and is only really mildly improved with Oromorph. I know it's early days after major surgery but I just wondered if anybody else had had similar symptoms. Thank you x

10 days post debulking - thought I was doing well but now still in lots of pain.
Have to admit once the epidural finished (day 4) the pain was still excruciating. Thank heaven for Oromorph. I needed it to back up the paracetamol and ibuprofen all day until about day 15 when I only needed it through the night once the day to day pain killers doses had reached their maximum dosage. Was a couple of weeks before I could start spreading out the paracetamol/ibuprofen a little longer and finally reach the stage of not needing the Oromorph at night. Then came off all pain killers quite quickly. About week 3 to 4. Take whatever doses you need to keep the pain at bay it’s only short term. God luck xx
Hi Sticky, sorry to hear that you are in pain. Like Julie, I needed oromorph for quite a while, plus regular Paracetamol & Ibuprofen, then gradually reduced them all. My GP was great, very supportive & helpful. I would recommend seeing your GP, at the surgery if you can, if not, a home visit is perfectly acceptable after such a big Op. Best wishes 💐💐
Ok ladies, that's reassuring to know. I'll keep on with the oromorph for now and see how things are in the next few days. Sure I'll be skipping round the garden soon! X
I had a morphine pump thingy after the epidural came out but didn't need it for long. However was on oramorph and paracetamol and ibroprufin until after I left hospital which was 12 days after the op. Most of the pain I had was from the drains and these took quite a long time to heal.
Hi Sticky
I seemed to be lucky and just took paracetamol for 4 days after my op. Agree with Seasun that contacting your GP would be a good way to go.
Best wishes Fay
thanks ladies. I'll see how things are over the next couple of days and probably need to rest more too! x
I was in pain on my right side after the epidural came out. I had oxycodone, oromorph made me sick, even after returning home. Needed it for a week, nights only and the pain gradually subsided. I think we all expect to be up and about quickly but don't realise the extent of the surgery I know I was like this. Hope the pain soon gets better - wishing you a speedy recovery x x
Sticky3006 please have a word with your team...although pain can be present after surgery it can indicate that something isn’t right...so do check with them. xx
You are not alone! I had a rough time with the pain. And no one told about the "pain management team" that will come to me if needed. If you have such a thing, demand to see them. They know what to do to help. And like others have said, it was very bad, then suddenly, got so much better but it was hard at the point you are at. Deep breathing and know this too shall pass. Takes a long while for many of us. oxox
If it’s painful after a couple of weeks I would call the consultant’s Secretary and ask her to tell him. I had a lot of pain post surgery which turned out to be a pelvic infection. So investigating is quite important
