In 2015 I had a hysterectomy except for my right ovary. Over the weekend I was having pain in my pelvic area and was told today that the ultrasound showed a cyst the size of an orange. I was asked to come do a CA125 blood test this morning but I don’t see the surgeon until next week. Is this normal protocol? Can cysts even be cancer? Any knowledge or experience would be appreciated!

Large cyst on remaining ovary 3years after hysterectomy
Dear Freckles,
That huge cyst sounds painful! Ouch!
But yes, cysts can be cancerous as well and doing the CA-125 Test is just one of the steps your team will be taking to get to the bottom of it.
Naturally, it’s removal will be a great relief and then they can do a complete histology of the cyst and really find out what is going on.
Keep drinking plenty of water, try to not worry too much while you wait for the results.
Best wishes,
Laura
Hi F.C. I had a massive18cm cyst on my left ovary two years ago. I was scanned and tested within a week. My CA came back well within the normal range it was 12. The result of the MRI showed a different story, behind the cyst was a tumour. I had a full hysterectomy and because the fluid escaped from the cyst I was advised to have chemo. I have been all clear since, so my cyst has probably saved my life. Good luck, you will worry until you know what’s going on, but it needs to be sorted. x
