Hi , had my first appointment with oncologist yesterday , have to go back next week for kidney test then start carboplatin for 3 sessions before surgery. I got very upset during this meeting.i know everyone is different, but wondered if it’s just a matter of months before it returns . I’m in a very dark place at the moment .

Waiting to start is horrible and we have far too much time to spend getting gloomier and gloomier.

It's great you have a plan going forward.

None of us know what the future holds, and not only in relation to OC. Very many of us do recur, but there's a lot of variation in when, how often. And not everyone does.

It felt like the end of the world the first time I did, but I can't really complain about how I'm living with it now. You can see the details in my profile. I'm feeling well, can pretty much do what I want to do and have even (mad) started that Couch to 5k programme.

If I think back to my head-space at the start, this would have been unimaginable.

Hang on in there! xx

Hi

You are being treated at a great cancer centre and there are many ladies on here that travel across the country to be treated there . So rest assured you are in good hands and Mac is right it’s always difficult waiting for treatment to start . Take each step at a time , try to keep busy and plan little things you enjoy .

I am almost 2 years since diagnosis, still here enjoying life , with no evidence of disease at my last scan in February after being diagnosed stage 4 and inoperable without the chemo doing its job.

I remember having many dark thoughts when first diagnosed and having treatment. Looking round the table during a meal with neighbours just after my surgery in November 2016 thinking this will be my last Christmas together . In March 2017 my neighbours husband tragically drowned while on holiday . He was a fit 51 year old , I have had 2 more Christmas’s with my family and intend to be around for many more despite OC .

Have you been to the Maggies center yet . Try and talk to a counsellor . It really helped me . Your fears are normal , you are still in shock about your diagnosis and it’s natural that you are scared and worried about the future . We suddenly have to hand our bodies and lives over to a stranger and trust that they will get us through this . Don’t beat yourself up about the dark thoughts but don’t let them stop you enjoying the life you have here and know today .

Love and best wishes Kim x 💜

Kim and Mac have totally got this covered, this is a scary time for you, the diagnosis rocks us all to our very core we never think this will happen to us but it has so all the right steps are being taken to treat and care for you and like Kim says you’re going to be treated at arguably the best cancer hospital in Europe so try to take some comfort and encouragement from that.

We are all here for you, we all understand exactly where you’re at and we will support you through all this.

Big hugs to you lovely, you can do this ❤️Xx Jane

We have all been there and best advise it to stay positive and think of all the ladies on here who have late stage disease and still keep having treatment. What i have learnt from this forum is never give up. Carboplatin i found was ok. I did not loose my hair. Managable nausea and constipation an a bit of tiredness was all i experienced. It is scary but if you know what to expect you manage. This forum is great when you need advise. Take care.

Hi, Yes we are all different and there are ladies on here that have not had a recurrence for many years and some with very good results, and this could be you I hope so .

Once you are in treatment you will feel better ..take care Lorraine xx
