I came into hospital on Wednesday to have my chylothorax drained on the right side of my chest.

They have drained off about 1.1 litre and I have had to be on a low fat diet whilst I am in to try and help dry it out. It’s not a very inspiring menu choice. Only 4 items and I have all of them now.

Just been for a chest X-ray before they decide on the next step ie to talc or not to talc.

I mostly just want to go home now. I was supposed to be taking mum for an interview at a sheltered home on Tuesday

Oh ScardyCat that sounds like purgatory...hospital food is bad enough without being restricted..presumably it’s all beige?

Sending you a hug and hope you get out very soon xx

It is kind of steamed fish, skinless chicken and mushy veg. The veg options are a jacket potato with beans but no butter or pasta with tinned tomatoes

Hi, oh that doesn't sound pleasant at all, I agree with Lyndy about hospital food being uninspiring without being down to ony 4 choices! Hope you are out soon. Take care, sending you a big hug. Kathy xx

keep going....you might yet be out of hospital for your mum....low fat diets can be depressing I know but hopefully it won't be for too long! Chris

Hope they get their finger out and make a decision on the next step soon

ScardyCat and you will be able to take your Mum for her interview. Jennyx

It’s not looking good it’s tea time Friday and I can’t see them doing anything over the weekend. I will have to stay in for a couple of days after they put the talc in

Oh, I hope you'll be released soon. That sounds like such a bland diet. Fingers crossed that you'll be out of the hospital soon and can attend your mother's interview.

Not the diet I'd be enjoying either, especially with steroid hunger, where I am constantly eating even if I don't want it.

It's got to be better to stay where you are, catch up with some TV and good books and try and fix the problem so you have a nice gap without the breathless problems you have had so far. I'm sure your Mum's appointment can be changed, but right now you are number one, prioritise you and get better.

LA xx

Doc has just been and my X-ray is looking promising. They are planning on putting the talc in tomorrow

Oh Hospital food, not a pleasant choice for you. Hopefully it will just be for a short time whilst you get ‘sorted’. Hopefully you’ll be out very soon xx

Good luck with the talc procedure tomorrow. Here’s hoping there might be a couple of new items on the menu you can eat tomorrow.

Sending a hug. I am sure you will be needing that after the depressing food choices. 😃

They put the talc in yesterday morning. I should have a chest X-ray this morning and I am hoping I will be let home today because I did not pack enough pjs and I have been flashing my bottom in my hospital gown

I do so feel for you, ScardyCat. I went in on Thursday but managed to escape Saturday. I found that the best thing on the menu was the soups. I hope you are out by now xxxxxx

Thanks I got home today. A lot of the soups had cream in them and the problem was I did not know the nutritional composition of the items on the main menu. I found it difficult to make informed choices

Yes, hospitals should do more to provide fat-free choices. My problem was finding something vegetarian that was low fibre, also not easy. My husband brought me something from home!

Unfortunately there was no one at home to do that
