Talc powder and OC

Like many others born in the 60's my mum smothered me in Johnsons talc, and it became a staple in my routine throughout most of my life. I developed OC age 41, no genetic link, fit and healthy non smoker. Always wondered why I developed it? just read an article about the link between talc and OC, what are your thoughts? dailymail.co.uk/news/articl...

I think perhaps I would be reassured by this report.

Unfortunately thorough medical research into causes of ovarian cancer seems to be in its very early days.

Hope this reassures you.

I have OC, no genetic link, never smoked, was fit and healthy- never used talc. I don’t think there is a link . I think it is more likely to be viruses, stress or maybe just bad luck.

There's said to be a link between cooking with Teflon non stick pans and OC, but whether that's why I got it myself, I shall never know...

I haven't seen this report or heard about it but I've never used talc. I did wonder once if using a no no for a week caused it . It's funny the things we think sometimes. x

There is most definately a link with talc and ovarian cancer. Johnson and Johnson added aspestos to their product. They have just settled a massive class action in the US.

Sorry J&J didn’t add it as it was there naturally in the talc. They didn’t remove it until the 70s. I used talc in the late 69s and 70s. Furthermore I had exposure to asbestos from a factory in my home town in Ireland. I have plural plaques in my lungs discovered when I was diagnosed. There is a definite link between asbestos exposure and ovarian cancer and indeed lots of other cancers. Researchers believe the asbestos fibres in the lung migrate through the blood stream and lodge in the ovaries where they cause irritation and inflammation.

Cancer cells love inflammation and thrive in that environment.

There appears to be link in america there was a class action suit against johnson and johnson. You can check it out on google it was successful as they put asbestos in the talc

This has been going on for well over 30 years that I know of. The asbestos in the product was because it occurs in the same places that talc is mined. They supposedly made sure they removed it some years ago but who knows as large companies will do anything to protect reputation and assets.

It was only supposed to maybe be a factor in serous oc but that may have changed. In the early claims it was required that the original tumour had to be available for testing and you had to prove that the talc used was their product. How many people can prove their Mum used that particular brand when they were a baby.

The latest ruling appears to not require that but again I don’t know the details.
