Hi lovely ladies, I was at the hospital today with my friend so decided to pop into Oncology to find out how long I'd have to wait for my scan results (it's been 3 weeks now) and how long to wait for BRCA test. Came away none the wiser and told to ring the nurse. The nurse was in the room behind her but I did as requested when I got home and had to leave a message so I guess I'll get a call back sometime next week. I wasn't trying to rush them, just wanted to know as I'm on holiday soon and wouldn't want an appointment to come through while I'm away which I wouldn't turn up to. Then I'd be in trouble.
Hope everyone is feeling good. Zena xx

Is that to take the test Suzanne or to get the results? I'm not in a mad rush to take it as I've waited this long and wouldn't even have known about it if it wasn't for reading it on here. I only want to give her my holiday dates so they can make the appointment around it. I'd like the scan results though. A nurse friend of mine said I shouldn't take it for granted that it will be clear. I don't completely but I'm sure if they'd found something I'd have heard by now.
I'm more concerned about you, Suzanne. I hope you're not doing too much. You don't want set backs. The chemo takes it out of you so be careful. I don't think you can always recognise how badly you feel until you feel better. Looking back I know I was feeling much worse than I thought I was and telling people I was. If you know what I mean.
Hi Zena. I’m ok. I’ve been resting all afternoon. Just watched a film. I’m a little bit off my food so am eating little and often. I’m going to totally rest next week. Get my body recharged.
Thank you for thinking of me.
I hope your weekend is going ok. It’s pretty windy here. Xxxx
Hi Zena, 3 weeks seems to be a long time to Waite for your scan results, as Suzanne said it surely can only be a good thing. You do need to know one way or another so you can plain your holiday.
Where are you going? some where warm ( maybe Australia we are coming into are summer and it's going to be a hot one.)
Thanks Lorraine, I'd love to visit Australia. I'm scared of spiders though. We're going to America for a few weeks so I'll be off the internet for a while. We'll end up in Orlando because I want to go on the rides. My aim is to be the oldest woman to go on rides so I've got to keep my practice up. (I'd put a smiley face here but I don't know how to do it).
Enjoy you summer. Hope you don't get any bad fires this year.
I can't wait Chris, it's been 12 whole years since I've been on a ride. Hope I haven't got to build up my stamina again. I'm not a screamer but I laugh a lot. Can't wait. Did I say, I can't wait. xxx
It’s really frustrating waiting for results and they seem to take longer and longer lately but they should be available by now so I would ring the CNS and ask for a call back so you can actually speak to someone.
We are all at the mercy of appointments, tests and treatment but need to have time for enjoyment too so have your holiday and have a great time xx
Thanks very much. We've had confirmation today that a house boat we've booked at Florida Keys is still there. I was worried for them after the storms. We could always book somewhere else to stay but it's their livelihood. It's just one of the places we're staying. Can't wait now. I'll be off line for a few weeks. A computer break can be a good thing.
I'm waiting for a call back from the hospital but if I don't get it, I'll ring them again.
Take care, Zena x
Hi Zena. Surely you shouldn't have to wait THAT long for CT results !! I'm not a pushy one but that really does seem unacceptable to me. Is there any way you can "put them on the spot" so they feel pressured enough to get their act together? It's sounding totally incompetent to me. I know our experiences are all different but at the hospital I go to, I've been told that the results are sent electronically by C.O.B. the same day. Now that doesn't always happen, of course, but there's only been 2 occasions in the last (almost) 6 years that they hadn't arrived to my onc by my next apt which is approx. 5 days later (and that includes a weekend). Can you find out who the right person is who can make sure the job gets done? It is a CT scan, isn't it? I think a PET scan might be expected to take a bit longer.
BRCA test is a different matter, as it's still relatively new. Can't remember how long mine took - I'd guess at 8 weeks from booking it to receiving the results. The results are often inconclusive anyway, or you have a "rare variant" that they don't, as yet, understand what it is.
Good luck with it. Don't let the buggers neglect you. Pauline (Australia)
Thanks Pauline, I'm on it. I've actually been to oncology and been turned away but I'll phone as often as necessary. We are a bit slow over here. They're so overworked. It is a CT scan. When I had my first one the results came straight away but that was because I was in A&E.
When I was having my chemo, it was delayed twice because they couldn't find my records. When I've waited for appointments I've seen people walking about with a trolly full of files and watched someone filing them in huge cupboards. Not exactly up to date technology is it?
Good old NHS. They do their best. Unfortunately, when a mistake is made peoples lives are involved, in most jobs it's just money. Frustrating but I'll get there.
Hi Zena, I would ring your CNS nd ask if they either see you earlier or explain you are going away and they might give the results to you. They are very slow in the UK to give out results and I know how frustrating the waiting can be. Have a wonderful holiday too.
Sometimes I feel guilty, cross and sympathetic that the majority of you lovely ladies are at the mercy of a health at system in crisis. I also feel blessed that I am in the french system and don't have to suffer long waits and anxious times. After my first scan I waited an hour to see the doctor then a PET was arranged for the following day with an an appointment with the oncologist for 2 days later. The same happened this week following my mid term PET. The BRAC was done automatically with my first biopsy and all results the next week. So Zena it's time to start making a fuss I think. Your life is important and your wait is unacceptable. Pauline is right. All scans are ready for analysis the same day. I sat in the cafe with my husband with a copy of the scan on my lap waiting for the hour to pass until my appointment. Of course we had a sneaky peak so knew the result. We are given copies of all procedures and they are available on line.
The french system isn't perfect by all means and sometimes people complain about waiting times but not me. I am grateful that I have been given the best care so far. My sister-in-law had a mastectomy and lymph removal on Wednesday at Addenbrookes. She was sent home the same evening for fear of MRSA infection. That cannot be right, can it.
Thanks Kryssy, I'll definitely chase them up. I'm so pleased you are lucky enough to have such good treatment. I think our people are good they just have their hands tied.
I did a trial at Addenbrookes. It's a good hospital. They wouldn't want to take any chances but everyone is checked for MRSA before they stay so it sounds a bit dramatic but best to be safe than sorry. Perhaps she was more open to infection with her operation. Hope all goes well for her.
Hi Kryssy, if Addenbrookes is ran by the NHS then that sounds about right. The NHS is sadly under funded & struggling in some areas. They won't keep you in any longer than necessary. My friend had blood poisoning & was sent home too early from hospital in case she caught MRSA. She was rushed back in then spent over a week in intensive care. They said she needed surgery but gave all sorts of excuses why they couldn't give it to her. She felt it was to do with the cost of it.
We are all from different parts of the country / world so treatments & results will differ from place to place. I am glad the care you receive from France is as good as it is. I hope your sister in law is ok now. Take care Cindyxx
That's terrible about your friend. I so wish the UK would adopt the french system. They did send some MP or other here a while back to look at our system but nothing came of it. It isn't expensive and treatment for cancer and several other deceases is free as well as free taxi service to appointments and free medication. Not even a fee for each item. There is no postcode lottery system and every patient is given up to date medications. The first thing our GP did when we first came here - 15 years ago - was to throw out all my hubby's meds for high blood pressure and said that they were outdated. I cannot fault the care both of us have had over the years.
Hi Zena, waiting for results are very stressful. It took me longer to get my BRAC test then the time to get the results.
I am waiting for a phone call from hospital to find out when I will start a new drug the waiting is hell!!!! They gave me till the 8th of November if it's not ready by then I don't know if I will get it.
Let hope your wait will soon be over & you will get your results. Take care Cindyxx
Thanks Cindy, I just want to know before my holiday. Either way, If it's clear I won't have to worry and if it's not I'll have the same worry as not knowing. xx
Sorry it's been so stessful for you...totally unacceptable waiting so long for scan results. Good luck with the results when you finally get them and enjoy your holiday xx
