I need help !please reply if you can .mum has ovca stage 3c diagnosed May 12. She has had chemo 3 times.
I am sorry to hear about your mum, and I am sorry that I am not much help, you could give the Ovacome helpline a ring for advice tel 0845 371 0554 office hours only...
they are very easy to talk to and might be able to advise you.
Best wishes love x G x
Hi, sorry to read your post, it may be worth ringing Ruth at Ovacome who will advise. You dont say which age group your mum is in, what treatment if any she is being offered. If chemo is not an option you could enquire about hormone therapy such as Tamoxifen. Love Paul xx
Thank you Paul and gwyn .maybe try ovacome .mum was put on letrozole(femara) in September to slow down cancer growth.i think it's quite like tamoxifen .
Yes your right, letrozole and tamoxifen are hormone therapy treatments. My Sandra started in Aug and it has slowed things down even though there are signs of progression. Xx
Hi there Paul ,if I remember Sandra is v like my mum.howuch chemo has she had ?
My mums chemo carboplatin was working albeit she only got 2 before anaphylaxis .her ca125 was 1000plus and after 2 sessions it's 333 .we are in n Ireland ,I'm not sure if city hospital does desensitisation therapy but if they did she could get that and then get carbo again .this has happened to a friend of mine in USA who reacted against carbo and doxil .
Many thanks for replying .
Hi, she had 6 lines before the tamoxifen, only ever completed one regimen of treatment (her profile explains more) and still fighting. They should desensitise your mums treatment on carboplatin or give weaker strengths over longer periods. Xx
Thanks Paul . That sounds good re weaker treatments over longer period .will mention that on Monday .thank goodness for this site as lots of good ideas and help are here.sounds like Sandra and my mum are putting up a brave battle against this ,such inspirational ,brave women !
I have had most of the other chemo treatments for oc over past 9 years and was quite poorly with last lot but am now on weekly taxol which is lower dose and haven't been too bad so fart apart from my white cells dropping. It had brought my CA 125 down from 1200 to 159 after 5 sessions and I can feel the biggest tumour shrinking so maybe your mum could tolerate that. Good luck with it all Francesca x
Hi Francesca ,thanks for reply.glad you are doing well on taxol.my mums ovca seems to respond well to carbo.she tried taxol, did 8 sessions and then 4 reduced sessions as found taxol tough going .her ca125 started to go up while on taxol and they found it not very useful to mum and stopped it .i understand what you are saying and take it onboard however .my mum until she took the reaction to carbo was doing fab on it .her ca125 was well over 1000 and after only 2 sessions went to 333 !!!
So frustrating for all involved ! I wish you all the best Francesca and continue the fight to this dreadful condition .lets hope they find a cure quickly .
