Hello everyone hope all are doing great ....I started my 3rd line chemo (carbo and taxol with avastin) on February, ca125 fall down to normal ,had CT scan after 4th cycle showing that i still have alot of disease in my peritoneum and have liver metastasis .. even though my symptoms are improving..but recently i had occasional blood spots.. today i saw my doctor and he said that i have a mixed response to chemo so i might start with a new medication(i am afraid i am running out of options)..i just want to know if anyone experienced the same thing!!is this a common thing!? I’ve never heard of mixed response .

My best wishes to all of you ladies ♥️

Hi. Just wanted to say that I am sorry to hear that you had a mixed response to chemo. I think everyone is different and also at different stages along the path! As you know, CA125 results are not always reliable for everyone. Sometimes we have a good or bad result to certain chemo drugs and sometimes it is mixed. Do find out from your Dr what s/he is thinking of putting you on instead and if it were me, I would be asking lots of questions! But that's me! Sending hugs from Australia and hope things improve quickly for you.

I suspect many of us have a mixed response to chemo.

My understanding is that this means it's possible to see it has benefitted us to an extent (eg some bits of disease disappearing or us feeling better) but it has not cleared other parts as well as hoped and/or some may have continued to develop. It may be the same thing as I've had described as a "partial" response.

To try to get the doctor to be a bit more forthcoming, make a list of all the questions you have about your past treatment, and its effectiveness, and suggested future options before your next appointment and make sure to tick them off in the discussion. If I don't do this, I go home having missed one query or another!

Good luck.

I think a mixed response is quite a cautious summing up of results so far. I know for some that response really isn’t conclusive straight away but we look for something instant
