Hi, I don't know if you have had PPI's before, but you can buy Nexium without a prescription for short term until your GP decides the best meds for you. Also take Gaviscon after meals and before bed. It does help soothe the soreness. I hope you get things sorted soon. I had an Endoscopy in August with 10 biopsies and don't know the result until I see the Consultant at end of November.
Hi thank you for replying yes I take lansoprazole dr has put me up to twice a day now until I get my results but still getting chronic pain I’m hardly eating as I darent because of it causing me to have a bad flare up just feel I can’t win sometimes but wow waiting till the end of November for 10 biopsy is a long time to wait do you get chronic pain too
Hi, I don't get chronic pain but I do get the occasional sharp pain if I drink coffee or eat anything fatty or bend over (I have a Hiatus hernia). I have my main meal at lunchtime and a sandwich about 7.00pm (only water after that). My worse problem is sleeping. If I lay flat or on my side the acid reflux comes up and burns my throat (despite meds) so having to sleep upright is really difficult. It puts a strain on my neck and back and I always wake three or four times in the night. It's miserable. I hope you get sorted out soon.
Hi thank you so much for replying to me I’m seriously thinking of having my main at lunchtime and something light at teatime as it kicks me up if I eat too late and my husband has a hiatus hernia and he has the same problem with the position to sleep in too it is miserable it’s not nice to deal with all the time hope you get some relief are they going to remove yours hernia at all
Hi, I have heard differing views on the operation for Hiatus hernia. Some people say their symptoms are worse afterwards and they still have to take PPI's so it's a big decision. Hopefully with watching what and when I eat and drink and trying to keep meds to minimum dosage I can get by without it, but it is depressing to think I will never be able to lay down to sleep anymore. Best wishes.
My GP often says I have a very large Hiatus Hernia, but is v negative about surgery. Do you know what the surgery involves. At present my reflux is sort of under control with Pantoprazole, and Peptac at night, so assume I am ok for the time being, but not sure what surgery might entail
Hi, my HH is 3cm., which is considered fairly small. The two ops. for reflux that I know of are the Linx procedure, which is a band of titanium beads with magnets that help strengthen the sphincter muscles to prevent reflux. The main op is Nissen Fundoplication in which they wrap part of the top of the stomach around the lower part of the esophagus. It would be a good idea to research into these procedures and discuss with your Doctor to see which may be more appropriate for your particular symptoms. Regards.
I know, that's how I feel, it seems a bit too invasive and some people don't always feel better after going through it all so it's a big decision. Best wishes.
Yes, I have tried that and different types of pillows for reflux, but I now sleep in a reclining chair which is almost upright at the back but raises my legs.
BBC same problem as you so now I use that s v shaped pillow propped up with bug pillows either side..every night I was waking with acid reflux and it was hell so now I take a sleeping tablet when I go to bed and it has helped immensely..I really just need to sleep end of and heal
