also what can I do to help this pain? Any ideas welcome? I am going through a very anxious period so I imagine that’s why I am suffering a flare up. How long do your flare ups last?

I would recommend Dr.Louise Kaufman's book Acid Reflux Diet. She's a world renowned expert.Good luck.Perhaps some mindfulness for the anxiety.

Hi Jumpey, you have high praise for the U.S. Dr Koufman's book. American reviewers are a bit critical of her recipes claiming they are complicated and that it's difficult to source the products. As her diet has worked for you, would you mind sharing details of what you might eat on a typical day?

Hi, my " crisis" is over now so am eating fairly normally. For months I ate a very bland alkaline diet. I didn't follow her recipes just made up my own including " allowed" alkaline foods which she lists. So for example porridge for breakfast. Simple ,plain pasta with very lightly sautéed vegetables such as mushrooms and courgettes or aubergine.I snacked on melon, banana and dates. I wish you well.

Thanks! It's very similar to what I now eat. I also have a plain slice of fish or a piece of grilled chicken with green veg. I eat watermelon and have banana smoothies with yogurt. Unfortunately, I still get a burning throat and discomfort. I don't take any pills. I am so glad you are eating normally again but I don't see me being able to go back there as I reckon I'm stuck with this now!

I still need to take Gaviscon Advance periodically .It will never go away completely. But please don't give up on the idea that you will improve. I was seriously ill for a couple of years .Severe acid aspiration caused serious lung damage. And I'm now out of crisis and leading a fairly normal life.

What an awful time you've had but so glad you got through it. Thank you, it does give me some hope!

Hi, it can be a fairly sharp intermittent pain around the Sternum area, or like an ache that comes and goes. Try to relax your upper body from shoulders to stomach. I find it's worse when my muscles are tense. You may find something like a yogurt or Kefir drink may help as it seems to soothe the inflammation somewhat. And body position. I tend to slouch but find it is relieved by sitting up straight. I know how miserable it can be. Mine can flare up after eating, so I chew my food thoroughly. Also, stress and anxiety definitely make it worse. Best wishes.

You need to see your GP to prescribe a ppi like omeprazole in the mean time try Gaviescone you can buy from a chemist anxiety can make it worse try a bland diet and stay sat up right after you have eaten no bending over ect for at least 3hours hope this helps

hi I have mild gastritis and tbh the pain varies from sharp stabbing pain to gnawing sensation under my left rib. It varies in strength also, can be mild or really server. Mine has been diagnosed via endoscopy so the doctor has checked this out and I’m on PPIs for 8 weeks. It does seem to be improving so fingers crossed. Anxiety doesn’t help as when I’m stressed it seems to be worse. Main thing is not to worry too much, I’ve had mine ongoing for circa 7 months but all been checked out, endoscopy, colonoscopy and CT scan so the Doc is confident that it’s nothing serious. Diagnosed as IBS with mild gastritis so just now leaning to manage it.

Take care 😊

Try Slippery Elm...that's the only thing that helps me when I get gastritis as can't take PPIs.

What form does the slippery elm come in? Can you put it in a smoothie for example? Does it taste gross? Is it a powder? I’m picturing a slippery eel at the moment :) I also can’t take PPIs so looking for an alternative. Thanks

It's just a capsule and doesn't taste of anything! 😊 It coats your stomach lining I think but certainly helps me. I order it from Cytoplan as it's a pure form and was recommended by a health provider.

Sounds great. Thanks. I have kidney disease which is why I can’t take PPIs. I’ll need to check whether I can take the slippery ‘eels’. Hope so. It’ll be a lifesaver

Also it apparently can stop absorption of other meds as it coats your stomach so definitely check. You can't (I think) take them long term...so I just take a bottle when I have flare ups.Good luck!
