Hello Shirley, I give cigarettes up 11 years ago and i would never trust myself to have one for fear that i would fall back into the habit - i really loved smoking but hated the smell. Anyway it does get better suddenly you will get to a point where you can say Good God, i haven't thought of a cigarette all morning. You have done amazingly well, the first week is really hard, so well done. They will soon be a distant memory. What are you going to do with all the money you will have saved?
Well at the moment, i am concentrating on having a nice holiday in the sun this year, As when i went last August i was suffering really badly with the systems of RA, and the worse thing was i didn't even know until i return that i had RA, so it wasn't the best of holidays...
Also we are hoping to go on a Cruses next Christmas, So i have a good reason to quit:)))
Thanks Mads will keep you undated, I also hope that all these positive message will help my friends on this site to Quit to XXX
Shirley, i have never smoked but i applaud you for giving up. Keep up the good work.xxx
well done! a week is a really long time without a ciggie - just keep thinking about that holiday and you'll be there in no time slapping the sunblock on.
Well done you keep it up x

You should be very proud of yourself.

Thanks Josie2, It does make me feel really good knowing that i have at least got though the first week, I know i have a long way to go, but one step and a time.
Take Care XX
well done shirl .. keep it going . xx
I just wish i had the same courage as you Shirl but im in between meds and struggling like mad lately, cold weather doesnt help!!
My steroid injection has started to wear off drastically and im badly flaring in my wrist, shoulder and toes, thats along with my broken toe on other foot lol!
I know its all excuses lol!!!
Ive now made a pledge when hubby goes to Ghana to work (been put back again for another month) i am gonna try n stop.
He was a smoker but gave them up about 5 year ago and always asks me if im gonna try?!
I now really need to, not just because of my health and ra but because hes just bought me a sports car and i feel totally guilty that hes given up, works every hour to provide for me and our son, gives us good holidays every year, buys me my dream car and im useless!,
Josie i know how you feel, But i have just excepted that this RA isn't going to go away, and that it is always going to be a part of my life, and there isn't a lot i can do, But i can make it better by giving up, and spending the money on great holiday's which i have missed out on for years,...... Maybe think of something that you have missed out on and would like to do that might help, As i have said it's not been easy, but after a week i do feel a lot better, As the nurse has told me never stop trying, even if you don't do it this time, but i have tried to do it on my own before and failed, so i do think it is better getting the help from your GP, And think what a surprise it would be when your husband comes home, That seems a good time to give up, as i have been a bit more moody, at least he won't be around to see it..... Hope this helps and you always have these lovely friend on here to talk to Shirley XX
Shirl, I have been away in Finland for a holiday, and one day when leaving the hotel and battling through the smokers at the hotel door to get to the incredibly clear, beautiful, cold air I thought of you and wondered how you were getting on. Now I know, and I am simply thrilled that you have made a week of being a non smoker! Keep up the good work - don't be tempted to give in now - just when you know you can do it! Well done!
