Helicobacter Pylori

wilbertjellyfish profile image

So I was all happy this week. Changing biologic, started on leflunonimide and got a buprenorphine patch to help manage the pain.Still very sore, feet sore and can't bend one of my wrists.

Then today I get the results of my endoscopy. Helicobacter, they were looking for Wipples disease as they really aren't too sure what's actually wrong.

Now they are suggesting two weeks of triple antibiotics. Anyone else had this??

I haven’t but my husband did nearly a year because of this bug about 6/7 years ago. He smelt of antibiotics instead of Au Savage! But it worked no more indigestion and it’s never come back. I know it’s not really indigestion but they used to give him that remedy and since then it’s not had any.

Thanks I don't think I have any symptoms, although my appetite hasn't been great for a while I thought it was just the inflammation. But I guess I'd be better with out it.

I’ve asked he got 2 lots of antibiotics so treatment must have improved since then. He did get awful indigestion and it’s never returned so it definitely did solve it. I remember because the medics infected theirselves and won a Nobel prize. I hope it helps you too.x

Hi wjf. I had HBP in September last year. I was given Clarithromycin, Amoxicillin and Lanzoprazole for one week. I ended up with awful oral thrush which felt like it was creeping down my throat into my gullet - it was really horrible. I bought some Daktarin Gel, which was a waste of money and it did almost nothing so I contacted the GP again and got a prescription for Fluconazole (5-days I think) which sorted it. My GP said one week of what I had was pretty gruelling and it really was so I pity you on triple abx for two weeks, but at the end of the day, it's going to get rid of it. All the best with it.

Thanks, definitely not looking forward to it now. 🤣 Fingers crossed it's not too bad.

my husband had HBP too. He had awful indigestion and heartburn symptoms. He had 1 week on Double antibiotics and Lansoprazole. He didn’t have any ill effects and it did kill off the HBP. M x

sorry you have H Pylori! That is miserable. Yes the triple medication treatment will help. Sometimes a blander diet for a few days helps while meds start to work (like potatoes, rice, Toast, proteins are fine too chicken etc but don’t spice them up.) Hope you feel better soon!

My brother had it and antibiotics took care of it.

when I developed bad heartburn and indigestion suddenly and started losing weight Feb 23 this was the first thing they said and tested for it twice but both negative. Omeprazole seemed to help and I’m still not my usual self but only take it rarely. Recent testing is for thyroid as that can cause gastric issues and weight loss but also ok so who knows.

Hope you recover soon.

I had HP some years ago and had antibiotic therapy which banished it entirely. I was fine on the antib’s - just a slightly metallic taste and a bit of diarrhoea for a few days but I’ve never had it back and it works very well in the majority of people. Best of luck cos while you've got it it’s pretty miserable as you know.
