Methotrexat and sore skin: Was wondering if anyone gets... - NRAS
Methotrexat and sore skin
Yes I have the same problem. I use diprobase, presribed by gp, I've tried several different creams, so far that is the best. It doesn't make it better, but it does improve it. I also have to be very careful to use a sun block, as I burn really easily.
Hope you can find something that helps. M x
Hi - yes I got this when I was on Hydroxichloraquine and MTX. I have tried each of these DMARDs for periods on their own too and found that it worsened most with Hydroxichloraquine - so much so that my face and lips started to swell so I eventually had to come off it.
But I should also say that a dermatologist later diagnosed this as Rosacea and advised me to treat this with a prescribed med - Lymecycline . My GP doesn't think it's severe enough to warrant this type of drug therapy and nor do I so I just try and use sun screen and a hat if I'm out and use diprobase ointment if it gets too dry. But if it is Rosacea for you too (and this is quite common for those with autoimmune problems apparently) then steroid creams or over the counter drugs such as hydrocortisone or pills may well make it worse. Also I find it worsens if my face and neck are exposed to sunlight. Of course it may be something different or just a drug reaction for yours so best to ask a GP before trying any topical treatment I would say.
I was told my sore patch of skin was actinic keratosis, mild sun damage. I'm on MTX & HCQ. I was prescribed an anti-inflammatory ointment (Solaraze/diclofenac) and it did calm it down, but comes back.
Thanks everyone for your replies i am using a moisturiser but i think i will make an appointment with my GP and see if they can help.
Hello
With regret I suffer Psoriasis of skin and joints DMARDS are all a treatment plan sometimes with -TNF medications etc.
MTX has a list of contraindications longer than your arm and I do not know what your condition is although I would understand that you will be getting MXT from a hospital delivery service or similair.
If you are not happy discuss all with your RA Nurse or Specialist there a good list of DMARD that you can take. Sadly I am unable to tolerate this group of medications and have tried them all in the past.
Personally there are many moisturisors on the market that can help and reduce skin pain etc and assist in keeping your skin moist. Talk to your GP I prefer the use of these above steroid creams etc as some creams can thin the skin
