Hi Alice

I suffer with terrible chest infections and had my first Humira injection last Friday and I’ve been ok.

Although I do wear a mask when I go out, when I can as I’m worried I will get another chest infection as I always need antibiotics to clear them.

I have however been on a night out with the hubby for dinner and I was lucky that I didn’t catch any bugs.

I have been taking extra vitamins to boost my immune system. Vit D3 spray. Vit B liquid. Milk thistle liquid, beroccas (Aldis own) daily to help. The liquid form is easier for the body to absorb. I pop it all into a glass of water. I make my own ginger, turmeric and black pepper shots and freeze. Take two small ice cubes or two large out each morning. Add to warm water to dissolve (mustn’t be boiling) and drink on an empty stomach. I find it helps to clear my chest from mucus and helps me overall with inflammation and the cleaning of the intestines which helps to absorb nutrients better.

I also follow an Auto Immune Protocol diet too and I am lactose and gluten free and only eat rye sourdough bread. It’s been a journey of hell these past two years but after my first injection I felt relief after a few days which was lovely. It’s petered off now, but I’m due my second injection today.

I’m sure all will be Ok for you. On the day that the injection was delivered I expected a nurse to call to oversee the procedure but that wasn’t how it worked. A nurse rang me during my two hour delivery slot to book in a day the following week, just incase you didn’t know.

Good luck with starting your injections I hope you manage Ok with your chest.

☀️😘

Yes mine is the same. I just can never remember how to spell Adalinumab so say Humira as it’s known as that too xxx

Hi Chester - may I ask a favour, what are the quantities of ginger, turmeric and black pepper shots that you use? Like you I suffer from a build up of mucus. Good luck with your new medication.

I just use quite a big chunk of peeled ginger. About 2 inches by 2 inches - two lots. A teaspoon of turmeric. A pinch of ground fine black pepper. You can add the juice of a lemon too if you wish. I forgot to say that I also add in water to help it to mix in the blender and to fill the mini ice cube trays. ☀️🥰

Hi, I'm confused. If ra is caused by an overactive immune system and you are prescribed strong drugs to dampen it down, why would you take immune boosting supplements? Seems contradictory to me and my consultant agrees that I should not take supplements and self prescribe. What are your thoughts ?

Hi Flipper

Research states that those with RA are deficient in Vitamin D and B vitamins also and I have been advised to supplement. I also have onset osteopaena and have to take two daily chewable Calcium tablets daily.

I prefer to supplement to ensure that I maintain a healthy body which can fight off any onset of a cold or cough, so that I don’t have to stop my medications for two weeks whilst fighting the infection.

In the past, whenever I caught a cold or cough 99% of the time it would turn into an infection and I would end up on antibiotics.

☀️😘

Thank you. I also am prescribed d3 calcium . I regularly eat ginger and black pepper ,I always have but I was told not to have any immune boosting foods I,e yogurts sold as immune boosting etc.

I will try anything to contain ra as I am still trying to find a drug that works. Thanks for sharing x

I haven’t had to change my diet at all but have since added the ginger shots and liquid vitamins - milk thistle, vitamin B and Vit D3 spray. ☀️
